G'day thrillseekers. I have had issues with my fuel pump on my EL wagin.
Sit back, grab a brew, and I will spin my story The original pump had done 200 odd k k's,. and was noisy, so I decided to change it. Went and bought a nice new Fuelmiser pump with all the trimmings, and set to changing it. Things went well, got petrol everywhere, but all in all the change over went well. Great Drove the car around for a couple of weeks, and the pump died. It shorted out and cooked the inside Bugger,. Must have done something wrong. O.K., fork out another $120 for a pump and another $23 for the gasket. Check and double check all electrical connections, and reinstalled the new pump. (Petrol everywhere again!) 1 week,. no pump WTF!!!!!!! pull this pump out (petrol...well you know) and it seems o.k., no signs of shorting. Put it direct to the battery, works like a charm. Bung it back in again (by this time I am EXPERT at changing fuel pumps,. can do it in 30 minutes) 2 days this time. No pump. Burnt out this time!!!! Another $120 etc. Check electrics, relace connectors, replace wires, go thro' the whole effing system, relay and all 1 week no F%^&*(^%G PUMP. Pull it out, no signs if shorting, connect to battery, works fine. By this time,. as you can imagine, I was about to set a match to the whole shebang, and mabe collect insurance. I decided to take a different tack. Went to my friendly wrecker and bought a second hand pump and all the trimmings. Fitted it, and so far, 1 week, no problems. A tad noisy, but who cares. Now, I checked EVERYTHING. Replaced the relay (twice) replaced connectors, checked wire resistances, checked pump resistances, and for some reason, all the aftermarket pumps blew up (except the last one) Maybe someone can shed some light on this, 'cos it's got me stumped BTW, if someone wants a good fuel pump I've got one |

I don't think it is a dirt problem, as all my filters were very clean. It almost seems to me that, for some reason, after market pumps are incompatible with my elecrical system. i am going to talk to a friendly auto elec. (If I can find one )

I mean the filter inside the tank, on the pump. Anyway, I've stuck my hand inside, you can do that on a wagon, and felt around the bottom. As clean as a whistle, not even any rust.

I haven't tried replacing it with a gewine Ford unit, but the one from the wreckers is still working fine Gives a bit of a whine tho.
I reckon, if it ain't broke, don't fix it , so I'm gonna leave it alone until it gets really bad, and then maybe try a Ford unit. |

aftermarket brands are s**t, replace it with a genuine one. it's burned me in the past where you have unhappy customers.

the fuel pump relay could be buggered, or corroded terminals as usually, water gets into them.
Did you check the voltage to the pump while its still connected. |
