To get that plastic ring off my old EA i just used a very large flat head screwdriver. Wrap a cloth around the end and push it up against the fins. Now whack screwdriver handle with a hammer a couple of times working your way around it. That will free it up.

I brought the biggest multigrips i could find, and they just stretched to fit over the ring. Cause they were so big, they had long handles and allowed me to swing on them, applying leverage to twist the ring off. Have used them since then to open stubborn jars. Reference the price, i didnt think i would use them again, so i got a set of cheapies from the markets

are you handy with a welder.

get a long peice of flat bar. measure and length of the top of the "cap" and then and ad 2 inches bend an inch from either side 90degree angle and cut a 2 to 5 mm gap in the ends, in the middle weld a peice of RHS and bobs ya uncle sit that on the tabs and use a shifter to turn... works a treat.

ok, patients with a hammer will do it. and if i'd had 1 more litre of fuel in the tank i would have flooded the boot when i opened it!

pumps out, small holes in the filter but nothing major. pressure relief check valve is clear. Impella spins free as far as i know. so the pump LOOKS fine.

thanks all for help so far. now all i have to do is get the hose clamp back on that SOB.

BTW, if i d/c the vac line to the FPR or crimp the return line on it, should i be smelling fuel out the exhaust and getting a hidous idle? I tried and the problem didnt seem to get worse?

i imagine so. you'd have to source a cradle and do some more research on it.

personally i wouldnt see much advantage in it. however if you were going to upgrade the pump, and aftermarket job would be best
