I have a EF XR6 too and am wondering how the duel fuel setup will work & if its good for the motor? Ive been asking alot of different mechanics they all seem to have their own opinion on gas cars. Some say extends your life of the motors & some say you ruin it straight away! Should any valve & seat work be done to cope with the extra heat? How come taxis last a million k's? What work are done to them? Are the heads any different to the norm? And rumour has it that on a duel fuel setup running on petrol will never run as good on it again! How come? I'd just like to get facts straight & some questions answered before I make the big decision weather it kills my baby or not! Help PLz?

I have had only good experiences with dual fuel on a HZ 253 and on a VH hemi 265. My EB 1 is going on gas, I'm just trying to decide between Parnells or Impco. Gas is great!

$2400 seems a bit dear, shop around. Taxi's never switch off, therefore the heads are always hot. It's the constant heating and cooling down of alloy heads that kill them.
LPG has it's good points and bad points. BAD : Loose boot space Add weight GOOD: Oil stay's clean cheaper to run. Work out if it suits your needs. You dont save THAT much on LPG

Too expensive? I would shop around but theres already a 6 month wait for any gas system installation in Bathurst! Cheapest here was $2400 but that was 3 wks ago.

I got my XB 351 converted to straight gas and did not lose any power at all. You will lose however if you go dual fuel, because tuning the car is a compromise to please both fuel systems.

The oil appears clean but dont think you can leave it in there for more than 10000kms because it becomes acidic after about 12000kms or 6 months.

your std motor will cop lpg fine, it will get better with some mods such as higher compresssion. but you will loose some power, but if its tuned right it wont be much, plus ongas you wont have a speed limiter.
lpg's great advantage is you can rev and play for a 1/3rd the cost. |
