Where's the megasquirt at. whenever i read the megasquirt site i get very confused, very quickly.

i hear MSII's, ms V3. whats the go these days. And more to the point whats more suited to me and can i actually get one and where from?

cars an EB.

ATM stock NA. Ideal to play with tuning (never really touched it).

Eventually heading towards turbo (already got the t04).

I'm not fussed about the construction side of it, just the plethora of stuff thats around on the megasquirt confuses me!

also what control over spark can i have ? (i'm guessing this will be important with turbo.. retarding timing..??)

Both versions of megasquirt (MEgasquirt n spark extra/Megasquirt II) have support for 12x12 spark advance tables.

I used to chat regularly with a guy from the corral.net (mustang forum in the US) who did a lot of testing for the developers of MS. Last i heard, MSnS-e was the most reliable version... had most (all?) the features of MS 2 but apparantley some relibability probs with MS 2.

It's easiest just to get a complete kit from Glen's garage.

MSII has a more powerful processor with more memory which allows more future expansion. I think it can theoretically support up to 36x36 fuel and spark tables. It will be interesting to see how people argue that Ford's EEC-V is better than 1296 separate load points.

The MSnS-e uses the MS-1 processor which is less powerful and, with the MSnS-e firmware loaded onto it is basically about as far as you can go with that processor.

what's the extra $66 do and is it worth it to me?? From what i gather the normal mega squirt is more than sufficient ?

from what i've just read the MSII does everything the MSnSe does?

Any reason why i shouldnt grab the MSII?

Only reason i can think of is reliability/stability issues reported to me by someone who tests the MS for bowling&grippo (on a supercharged mustang).

They are still developing the extra code for the MSII, so the MSII will lack features (for now).. things like nitrous control, traction control, water injection, fan control (I think someone's developed this already).

I have both at the moment on my test bench, haven't put one in a car yet, thats todays job.

I would recommend going with the MSII personally. I don't know how you are with computers, but the MSII code is written in C, and is very easy to manipulate to your own liking.

From the site you can get the partial kits, this will get you (for a megasquirt 1) a V3 PCB, the map sensor (MPX4250), the processor (the HC08 freescale processor. 3Mhz), and the dual mosfet driver, it's not the IXDI404, but it does the job.

For a megasquirt two you will recieve the same thing, minus the mosfet driver, and instead of the processor will be a daughter card, on which will be the all new HCS12 freescale MCU.(new in terms of megasquirt).

You will then need to source the BOM. These are the components.. caps, resistors, transistors, mosfets, leds, sockets, connectors, etc...
Most people buy the lot from digikey, but other buy everything together (the partial kit, and the components) from people like DIYTune, Glens garage, and the like.

I personally got the partial kit, and bought all the components locally.

The extra $66 is for the MSII. As for MSII vs MSI, I think the it greatly depends on you, and your application, and plans. Check out the MSnS-E site, and the MSII site, and compare features.

I've banged off an email to glen as to stock status of the MSII. Just gonna lash out and get the whole MSII kit.

The MSII are back on the sale shelves... the last group buy was like 1500 of them, so yeah.. they should have them.

just a quickie for ya ms blokes.

How does the MSII control spark advance/retard when using a distributor? Or can't i get that level of spark control out of it?

The fuelling side of the tuning all makes perfect sense to me but the spark side gets me a bit confuzzled...

the HEI module.. the thing on the side of your distributor.. or you can get a seperate IGBT circuit, and drive the coil directly.
