Hi been having probs starting my ef lately ie. turn key to start and nothing, can hear fuel pump prime when turn key to start all acc's go off and can hear relay's ticking but no starter motor. when car does start while driving i can hear the ticking noise behind the dash like when you turn key on to start so im thinking it might be the bem/smartlock unit stuffed. any ideas please!

i know how that feels, exactly the same on my NF 5.0 had the problem for a while put in a new starter, and all good until tonight - some 4 months later - turn the key and nothing tried for 1/2 hr until tiny whirr from starter and next time she went! right pain in *ss this one!

I know i din't have the dash noise, but, got mine sorted was just dirty contacts on starter, cleaned up main cable, and replaced spade connector, the dash noise may be smartlock related? best of luck!

Got a s/h BEM didnt help so will take it back, am leaning towards starter motor probs will get under car tomorrow and test for voltage across solenoid and relay hopefully simple fix prob should've checked that 1st will let ya's know how i go cheers
