I have installed new ignition lock
but the car won't start.
I suspect it is now immobilised.
Just get the ((!)) light up on the panel.
Does this mean it has been immobilised ?

Left ignition on for 30 mins
Still would not start.

Is there anyone who can help ?

I know with ef and els that if you change lock barrel you need to leav ethe key on sometimes for 45mins-1hour. If you try and start it the timer will reset

I know with au2s with samrtshield they need to go to the ford dealer and be plugged into the WDS, Howvever AU1s should operate similar to ef el

(!) is probably something different, my understanding is that the smartlock will flash and carry on different than usual...do u have a smartlock jewel on your dash?

No smartlock jewel on this one.
No hand symbol anyway.
As someone mentioned I will
disconnect the battery and try
again.

Thanks very much.

After a lengthy saga, I got to the bottom
of this today. I installed a new 12A650MC
(that's an ecu in plain english) and she
goes. The bloke in Ford told me someone
had already replaced the original with a
later model modified ecu. That's lasted 6
years. My 98 AU had a 2000 model modified
ecu. Why ? I don't know. Is that normal ?
I don't know but when they fail they seem
hard to diagnose without a kit of some sort.
Ended up replacing ignition switch, coil,
plugs. So if anyone wants to buy faulty
BE modified to be a MC they can have it
for $100. Otherwise I will pull it apart
and see if I can fix it.

Cheers.
