Hi guys, the ECU supplied with my T5 looks a bit dodge. It is missing the panel on the bottom and also has a tuning sticker??? where can i get the actual panel that covers the bottom or could i just swap to another ECU case?? Also in the pic is the sticker on the front, what does this mean, has it possibly been re-tuned or what? Cheers

I think the ECU has been tweaked by some company :? From the label I am guessing they have done some sort of chipping...from the "virtual" testing part.

The bottom bit doesn't have to be covered. It is used to diagnostics really unless you have one of them "plug and play" J3 chips. You can just put gaffer tape over it...not like you can see it once covered by the kick panel :P.

But the above statement regarding the sticker is just a guestimate, don't quote me on that.

phong =P~

it would have a different catch code if it was reco'ed IIRC.

Looks like a reco ecu (non ford) so no change in the catch code. A number of companies have simulators to test the ecu during diagnosis and final testing after repair. Thats why Bursons and other parts retailers do exchange rebuilt ecus. Your dead one gets rebuilt and sold to another customer. Usually put warranty void tape over the outer casing to stop people tampering with the rebuilt internals.

But its still the same as the oringinal right? This was sold to me as an EB GT ecu (catch code confirms this)

I would assume so unless the sticker is ripped or looks like it has been removed, then it may have been tampered with.

Looks like you're safe though.

Can't guarantee it but I would suspect that it is an original as per the catch code. I see nothing on the repairers label to indicate anything other than a repair/rebuild and testing. The virtual part is only simulating the cars inputs and outputs for ecu functionality. I guess the only way to be sure would be to try it in the appropriate vehicle.

Yeah, one side of the label has dried up and peeled off but the other side looks fine to me. Should get the chance to check it once i bolt my box up, as soon as i manage to find a decently priced clutch

Yeah thats what i thought, i compared it to my other EB one that i have here and its a completely different case, the other EB one i have here is a 6cyl type and it's case is identically to my other AU auto one. Maybe this one got dented or something, then had a repair to board and case??? i dont really care, just as long as it does its job

being a V8 ECU, they do not include the transmission ECU, where as the 6cyl ECU's do, im guessing thats why the cases are different. the 6cyl case has more a of a heat sink than the V8..

oh i see, that would explain why this is like a tin shell and the 6cyl one has heaps of chunky metal around it
