Hey. I've currently got T5 in my EA 3.9L. It bugs me that engine revs are holding at the speed that the clutch is disengaged for a couple of seconds before slowly dropping. It seems to have gotten worse since getting rid of the clutch fan and putting thermo's in. Would this be because of the less weight on the engine?

Would running an aftermarket ecu manage this any better?
Its only a minor thing and its not an issue, I just wanted to know If it can be resolved.

are you using a auto ecu??

if so the revs are holding because it thinks the auto is in gear and it bumps the rpm up so it doesnt stall when the auto goes into drive..

Fixes :
1) Get a manual ECU - can be hard to get / expesive / difficult (smartlock and such)

2) Apply some resistors to the current ECU tricking it (it's always amusing/satisfying tricking a computer)

3) Unplug the ISC (Idle Speed Controller) and bump up the mechanical idle speed (this has adverse side effects, but is the most simple solution)

Cheers

ahh wat is the VSS in non abbreviated form? idle speed controller...where is that located? i have taken the cap off some part that is just under the throttle body and cleaned it out. is that the idle speed controller? and what are the 'adverse' side affects?

Vehicle Speed Sensor is what VSS is. Your ECU's DASMIN (dashpot minimum for declutch) scalar that is causing it to hold, but unless you play with your ECU code, your going to have to play with mechanical tricks to fix it.

umm....i fear i will destroy anything i touch without a second opinion......

ANYWAYS, I ended up getting a rebuilt EA 5spd ECU for $160 with a 12month warranty through {DESCRIPTION} on an exchange basis ($300 deposit), didnt even matter that i gave them an auto one back!!. Im not sure if this is trade price though as it was ordered through my dads workshop... It has slightly improved the 'hangtime', as well as other problems like high idle revs on start up and first 5 mins of driving, and stuttering when in low rev range while driving.
