Can i hook onto the j1850 PWM bus in my ef falcon from the 20 pin connector in the fuse compartment..??

I know what some of the pins do:

1 = ENG STI
2 =
3 = ABS STI
4 =
5 = ENG STO
7 = ABS STO
8 =
9 =
10 =
11 = Fuel pump
12 = ENG GND
13 =
14 = ABS GND
15 =
16 =
17 =
18 = Tacho
19 =
20 = Battery+ 12V

Does anyone hav a name for this plug..?

Done a lot of looking on the net and can't find this plug. One of the forum members builds diagnostic boxs with the plug included. The BEM's (mid series) have a similar connection and plug which could be modified to work. I used one from an old stereo and fitted toggle switch and LED/resistor to read my codes. Easier than probing pins.

Your probably after the ability to read engine data in real time from the connectors comms pins. I think most who have tried have failed and only expensive commercial type systems (Ford, Snapon)have the ability.

Anyway I'd love to be proven wrong.

I once had my multimeter in there with aligator clips n shorted two pins n got some sparks flying..
i like the idea of a plug with the toggle switches and a led.. i scavenged some female connectors out of an old plug n made one straight through and one with a led/resistor combo..

Yeah i hav a low series BEM from an EL that hav the plugs still in it n noticed one of the connectors looked similar.. want to keep it in tack but..

I guess i could probably figure out if there are 2 connectors hooked to the PWM bus by tracing wire colours from the BEM or ECU, i think the climate control module and Instrument cluster are also nodes on the bus..

I think getting live data from the EA-EL ecu is not possible...

I think there is a limited amount of data (that the trip computer uses) on the DOL pin (but i dont think anyone has deciphered it)....

I dont think even commercial scanners can access much more than fault codes and all they really do is read the pulses....

Im not sure about AU ecus, they may have some live data functionality and it seems possible to fit it to an EF without major surgery

Hi, I am from Europe so I don't have any information about cars in Australia yet.
I created diagnostic device for Fords with EEC IV ECU (and EEC V too) with possibility to read live data, clear dtc, ..., but I absolutelly don't know if in Australia were created cars with this possibility.
I am not talking about "blink" codes from older EEC IV types of ECU. I am talking about newer
version of EEC IV with possibility to connect to PC and read LIVE DATA.

Is there any car with EEC IV which while blinks procedure returns error codes with THREE digit ? (not two).

Thanks in advance and pls. sorry my English.

Diagnosis connector.
The smaller of the connectors to the EF BEM will fit - I used one for my test box.

Stockstandard was working on a program that would read live data - I was a beta tester. IIRC he was studying to be a doctor, and didn't finish it.
Here's the link anyway: geeky-bits-f37/beta-testers-wanted-t39032.html
