What causes LPG systems to backfire? I copped some last friday on that hot afternoon in my NL. I trace it back to being a hot day, or just some dodgy LPG from safeway.

I ran the car on petrol until I reached a petrol station, filled up the car with new LPG from Mobil (34 litres it took), and 22 litres of unleaded.
I then drive for a distance of 122 kms on unleaded, the car did not miss a beat. Then I swithched fuels for the next 70 kms. I was on LPG until I got home sunday afternoon and the LPG was fine. I ran the LPG down to a range of 88 kms. Filled up today and took 61 litres of Shell LPG. The LPG range shot up to 732 kms. All good - may get a tune just to be sure as LPG system is still under warranty.

i think thats thermostat related if its not heating up enough try changing that cause it shouldn't freeze espically if your runnin straight gas

Bachfiring in LPG systems is usualy caused by poor ignition sytem. Check/replace leads, plugs, coil (pack), dizzy cap, rotor. and only use quality items. Set plug gaps point one to point two mm smaller than recommended for petrol. Get one step hotter plugs. Ignition can be advanced up to 12 degrees initial advance. Remember, running LPG in todays cars that use ECUs will always be a compromise unless you specificaly design an ECU for the LPG, such as Tickford have done (did)
Freezing is usualy caused by an air lock in the cooling system Make sure your system is bled properly, and is full. |

backfiring is caused by (in most cases) ignition problems
or lean mixtures (vacuum leak)
