Just as the title says.. I am aware that the Govt has not set a minimum rating as stated in another thread. However, to peoples' best knowledge, what is the rating of LPG, or is it different between companies?
Perhaps the better question is, what is the lowest rating? If you tune the engine to the lowest, it shouldn't blow up lol.  BP's site says theirs is 93.

That's a pretty low rating. The highest is between 100 and 110 depending on who you talk to. 93 sounds pretty low but maybe woolworths/caltex is slightly lower.

93 maybe their guaranteed minimum, generally most LPG is much higher than that. However it varies considerably, usually between the high 90's and low 100's. From what I've been told its the ratio of butane to propane that effects this.

Hmm.. Not good. It will be a bit scary if you have a performance motor set for a certain RON rating and not knowing what rating is being put in the car every time you fill up.

Having towed a caravan to Perth and back from Canberra in an XF on gas, the only gas that gave good power and milage was ELGAS all the others were very much lower in power and economy. Also temp was lower with ELGAS

ELGAS and Unigas are apparently the same thing. All the rest are s**t. Butane has a higher energy rating but a lower octane rating while propane has a good octane rating but slightly lower energy rating. Butane also makes your car run hotter than propane.
100% propane has an octane rating of 110-115 while propane is 90. |

what do shell and mobil sell?

Apparently shell and mobil both sell rebadged UNIgas. I've actually seen a Unigas bowser at the Albion Park rail shell and a forum member has told me that mobil sell unigas too. That's the stuff you want as its as close to 100% propane you can get.
I thougth the BP Gas was supposed to be the good stuff (well that's what their marketing team reckons) untill I found out it was roughly a 50/50 mix. |

Well (110+90)/2 = 100
100/0 (butane/propane) = 90 RON 0/100 (butane/propane) = 110 RON |

Ah thanks damage, that makes sense. I didn't know what RON or MON stood for. I guess when tuning it is safe to tune to 100RON then..
