No problems at all. Keep me posted. Seems so much harder with an ef/el than an ea. having trouble finding it in the manual. I'm changing over to 2.88 on the weekend if i get the time.

RPM output is the single blue wire with pink stripes or vice versa from memory, near the brake booster. It's a female bullet connector on it's own.

Oh BTW I've been helping brock61 with his EA MSII since he got it and I have just bought my own MSII for my AIT. Haven't built it yet but that's coming soon.

You will need an RPM signal into the MSII even though you aren't running spark from the MSII. Everything the ECU does is timed from the RPM/PIP signal AFAIK.

thanks for that. i could do with some help as well, but no one in adelaide with a ms seems to be around. im buggered if i can get a tach signal to the ms at all. tried the diag tach signal- nothing, tried straight from the crank angle sensor- nothing. datalogging shows no rpm or injector duty cycle on cranking. how the heck am i supposed to get rpm signal to ms?

What car exactly do you have? I'm intrigued by the crank angle sensor that you speak about???

hi mate,

i have an ef i6. these have no distributor, but coil packs which are run by an 'edis' module that fires 3 coils to spark the plugs. they know when to fire by the eecv getting signal from a crank angle sensor. the crank has a 36 tooth wheel mounted on the front with 1 tooth missing. when the crank spins the wheel a magnet in the vr sensor gives a signal when it is passing a tooth and the ecu is programmed to fire a cylinder at certain teeth (12, 24, 36). it knows when the crank is at tdc because it 'misses' a signal there, as tdc is set to be on the 'missing' tooth. advance is worked out as the ecu is set to fire firstly on a certain amount of teeth after the missing tooth, and a certain number of teeth there after.

this is non adjustable on an ef as the advance is preprogrammed in the eecv. however, megasquirt can be programmed to fire as many teeth after the missing tooth as you like at each rev range and load. thus-programmable advance

no im not.

on talking to diy autotune it would appear that there is a mod kit you can use for each coil (3) that will drive them directly.

im thinking of scrapping the idea of running fuel first and doing the whole shebang. i still cant get my car to run.

i found out i had some of the jumpers wrong on the main board, so changed them for vr sensor and now the injectors pulse ALL THE TIME when power is on ms. to ge the injectors to stop i have to unplug the main harness from it.

if i didnt want all the features you get with ms2, i would throw it in the bin and get a stinger.

but im better to just perservere.....

Now i think you are on the right track. use the ms2 only. As i thought, the jumbers were in the wrong spot for vr sensor(earlier post). Now what u need to check is that the polarity of the vr sensor is right. One wire goes to pin24 and other wire is to pin36. As you would know u have a north pole and a south pole in a magnet.

i was actually thinking of ripping it out tomoro and wiring the eecv back in, starting it up and running it for an hour or so so it is warm to start.

then wiring from scratch again.

your advice is a big help, as im reading sooooo much info, im confusing myself and it helps to have someone confirm your on the right track

Not such a bad idea. Take your time somewhat forget this try and make sure the wiring is right and the ms2 is set up right. 89ait's chart in here should help u no end.

A good place to start reading is in ms manual, Scroll down the side to Distributor pickup. read that then scroll down that page and read points 51 on.

Have you had a look at this page about multiple coils and crank angle wheels? I just came across it while clicking around the DIYAUTOTUNE site for the 4 bar MAP sensor kit to add on to my MSII.
