Ive been having a dying fuel pump for a while now, its been whining, and making funny noises for about 3 months. So the other day it let go, and stopped pumping fuel. I was meant to buy one from Shane ages ago, but have not yet found enough money. So I went to the wreckers, and got another one... replaced it, while spilling fuel all over myself, and then ripping the gasket.. I then called it a day. I got another gasket the next day, and took it for a spin.. it was SOOO quiet! the pump that is. the tyre and exhaust noise was still there ...
So here is my question... I have now developed a flat spot from the 2 grand mark, up to the red line basically. I got the pump out of a wagon... I have an EBII wagon, I don't know what this ones out of.. can't remember... was there differences... I compared my old one to a sedan one, and it was bigger. Does this mean that different wagons had different size fuel pumps? mine was a VDO one (the old one) the one I got is a BOSCH, are VDO ones aftermarket? Also, I found an EL one there, it was defiantely alot bigger, yet it was mounted differently, and I couldn't stick it in my pocket nor could I afford it, so I left it there wondering if it was worth it? So did I just get a fuel pump out of a CFI wagon or something? am I really that stupid (don't really answer that, I know the asnwer)? Cheers

Yeah the only problem is if it was from a CFI because they don't flow enough, all MPFI pumps have similar flow though EB-AU. Also the problem with used pumps is that they commonly fail very quickly as the rubber seals become worn and when removed from the car they dry up quickly and crack causing the pump to fail or not perform very well.

Oh well if it was free then its not too bad. The seals are internal and can't be replaced, its just a common problem with used old pumps.

So, if I go get that EL one, all will be sweet you think? or just pring a jerry can, and stick the pump in that?

Ok, I got an EL one, and mounted it, even though it was slightly different.. and no I get hardly any noise, still a humm.... and I have full power.. I think, well tyres are screeching again.
I will now save for a 190L/Hr one, and see how that goes. Cheers

Good to hear its going again. Yeah you will find that they are often different sizes, my 255l/hr pump is tiny compared with the stock one but they are easy to fit anyway.
