Quick question for everyone that knows more about the E series ECUs than I do (which is probably most of you).

Currently in the for sale section - ED XR6 Auto ECU.

I drive a 93 ED Fairmont, Unichip attached, quite a bit of engine work.

I'm mainly wanting to know whether this ECU would be a straight plug and play with my car. Not sure whether the XR unit is a straight replacement for the Fairmont.

I'm hoping so, I need to ditch the speed limiter (will only exceed 180 on dyno or track).

it would probably be worth it if you didn't have the uni chip, but i cant imagine it giving much more performance or driveability. Could be wrong though...

I wan't really thinking of it power wise - more for different positioning for the gear changes (not sure if this is so or not) and to ditch the limiter.

I'm not sure about the ECU, but before someone else says it... the limiter on the stocko ECU is mainly because of the stock tailshaft. If you have an XR alloy one, then it would be fine to get rid of the limiter.
Otherwise it can be pretty dangerous.

Yep :)

Switching out the steel one for the alloy.
Should be good for about 220kmh.

Damn. Thought it was controlled by the ECU.

You will need to have the Unichip re-tuned if you swap out your existing ECU for and XR ECU.

If it is that important, cut your loses with the Unichipand sell it on eBay, then get the CAPA Eliminator chip.
