Hey guys I need to replace my fuel pump but im stuck I cant get the plastic lock ring off, I have the clamp off around it everything disconnected and out of the way, ive tried a thread lubricant, the special tool that locks on the lugs it just broke them
 tried the hammer screwdriver also broke a lug or 2 I don want to keep braking these lugs off and bending them lol.. does anyone have any other ideas? is maybe breaking it off and getting a second hand one from the wreckers an option?Cheers |

Keep hitting it with screw driver/hammer alternating sides.
It will eventually let go. I haven't had one that tight before, so your chances of getting one at the wreckers would be good if you do happen to smash yours. |

I only just did this the other week. Those plastic rings are extremely tight. And yes tapping with a hammer and flat blunt object works but will be better with the correct tool. When tightening also must be super tight or it will leak.
To be honest I dont use the clamp and have had no issues as long as the rest is tight.

When putting them back on, I use some silicon spray on the threads to make it a little easier to tighten up.

How hard do I hit it with the hammer? the lugs just smash off, there was also a bit of dirt built up around the sides ive cleaned it out but wonder if its made it harderr to undo, il spray some more wd40 around in and give it another go with the hammer and screwdriver, I have the proper tool it also just snaps and bends the lugs when I twist with a socket wrench

Not a full swing, but decent hits to shock it loose.
You need to move around the ring though, if you only hit one side it will lock up on the opposite side. |
