Ok, so I'm cruising along into town today and the first time in 5 months (since the BBM and computer conversion) I flicked the power button down because I wanted to hold the gears a bit longer. Much to my surprise it shifts up instead of holds gear. Turns out it does it in all gears, and with the button off, it holds gear and revs. So what essentially has happened is the modes are back to front on the switch. Whats gone wrong and how do I fix it? It is an EB Fairmont automatic obviously with an EL gli auto computer and BBM.

To add to that, on the EB-ED the normal mode is Economy, and the Power mode brings up the little 'Power' light on the dash, whereas in the EF-EL the normal mode is 'Normal' (which I class as Power) and the Economy mode is the one that brings up the dash light.
Personally I think it's stupid..and I don't know if it's just me or all EF's but my economy mode doesn't use 4th gear until I hit 70kmh. Anyway, that may be why they are seemingly back to front. As to how to fix it, I haven't a clue, sorry! |

when using el ecu's in ea/ed the switch is reversed so economy mode is actually power and power mode is actually economy..

Hi All, yeah I installed the EL ECU in the EBii today and can report the same. I guess ford wired it up this way and then changed the message in front of the light in the instrumnet clusted from power to E-con.... An easy way to check if you have EEC 4 or EEC 5 ECU installed in your passenger kick panel... Use the the pedal closest to the Driver side kick panel.

Bit of thread mining here....
Anyone ever thought of using the J3 chip to swap the Econ/Power mode maps in the tune so that the button works in the correct configuration for EA-ED ??

As long as your definition has tables for both modes, that should work just fine. The ECU doesn't care what word is printed on the switch. It just shifts when the table tells it to. What an elegant solution!
