Last night, once again, my car amazed me by dying at the lights as i put my foot down.

After a couple of attempts to start the thing up i decided to push the thing to the side of the road and try to figure out what was wrong with it. i checked the ignition, everything seemed to be working fine, i had spark after all, so i figured it was a fuel problem.

i managed to get the fuel pump cover plate off and give the top of the pump a couple knocks, and what do you know, the car decided to start, then later dying again.

Im not too sure about this but i think the problem is my fuel pump. Does anyone have a clue of what is wrong with my car. Thank you

BTW: I drive an EF Falcon GLi 1995.

when you click the key over onto 'acc' (i.e. the one before you turn it over) you should hear the fuel pump kicking in - it should be a short sound of ~1.5secs, and should be quite 'sharp' i guess is the best way to put it. mine clicks over, but you can hear it struggling & slowing down - i.e., the pump is on its way out - have a listen & see what noise (if any!) the pump is making! :)

another thought: could the fuel filter be blocked perhaps? :?

fuel pump for sure, if u hit it and then it started working that is what it will be with out a doubt very common on falcons

If you need the fuel pump to operate continously, earth out the top far right terminal on your diagnosis connector, and switch the ignition on, then have a play around. This also makes sure the associated relay and wiring is okay too.

good news, it is the fuel pump, getting it changed first thing tomorrow..
