Yeah it screws off and you are suppose to have a special tool to do it, but I have done it many times with just a mallet and large flat head screwdriver. Place the screwdriver on the ribs on the ring and then hit it with the mallet (normal anticlockwise). It may take a bit to get it moving but just keep bashing away :D

Yes it does screw off '' i made up a tool to do it . get a flat bit of steel a bit longer than the plastic bit . bend the tow ends over. cut some slots init with grinder .and weld a old socet on it then but a socet stiffbar and turn the sucker off.

i used a mallet and flat screwdriver too. took a fair effort to get it off. bash away anti clockwise direction and it should come off. but make sure when u get it off replace the black rubber O ring or else ur petrol might leak. cost u about 30 bux to replace and its worth the 30 bux.

They are a bugger to get loose as the o ring holds
on. either use a block of wood and a hammer , but if you can get to either Super cheap or Repco you
could buy the correct tool for around $ 30 . I found
the tool works great as I had a sticky pump only 6 months after putting the first one in. removed it in about 5 mins not 30 mins.
