Hi,
can someone please run me through the basic steps involved in replacing the fuel pump in an EL? is it possible through the hole in the boot or do you need to drop the tank?

u can replace it through the hole in the tank.

first u gotta remove the negative from the batter (only if u want to be safe....but u are working with the petrol tank) then unscrew the screws that hold in the cover plate. unplug the wires to the sender and pump itself. unplug the fuel return line and the other line (fuel sender?) make sure u plug the tubes with something so that things dont leak out.

then u need a special tool.....or a mallet and a blunt screwdriver (flat head) or something similar to wack the black ring. (of course remove that clamps around the black ring). wack it so that the cover moves anti-clockwise (correct me if im wrong anyone) and then after much wacking the thing should come loose. it does take a lot of effort. if u have the special tool for it then great if not the mallet and blunt flat head screwdriver are ur tools to use.

once the black ring is off there should be a black rubber "O" ring and u need to get a new one (for my EA it was like 35 bux for a damn piece of rubber) then u pull out the assembly. pull out the old one and replace with new.

when putting back its the reverse of the above steps. make sure the "O" ring sits in tight and that the lid is on pretty good too or else petrol leaks. and makes the plastic soft and its a b**ch to remove after that.

ah awesome...will give it a go tomorrow, after i put my tow hitch back on following a failed shot at getting the tank out lol

ok how is it physically possible to get the hose clamp off? does anyone know an easy way to achieve this?

shannonwulf.......i was having the same problem.........if u find out tell me lol. the plastic cover seems to get in the way of removing the tubing....so its a nuisance. i guess try and force it out.

ok i done it:)

getting the hose clamp off is impossible. all i did was lever it around with a screwdriver for a while, till it was loose enough to be levered off and never used again...i dont have one on there now

and the plastic ring gave me grief to get off...but if you use a lot of WD-40 and paitence it can be done...

uhh WD-40? is it wise to use it near the petrol tank? well anyways good to hear u got it off. takes a lot of effort to get that damn thing off. =D
