Hey,
i have a 2001 AU seires 2 xr6 non vct engine.
2.5" redback exhaust, pacey extractors, hi flow 100 cat, will have modified 2800 stall, and pretty big cam in it. will have engine work later down the track but for the mean time, what would work best?
heard i could possibly put a j3 in it, but some say x3 only or something. was just wondering what would work best.
thanks

being a series 2 it would be xcal3, ti performance do a j3 but afaik its only for series1..
you could contact ti performance and find out if they do a j3 for au2..
the j3 will be much cheaper over the xcal..

yeah i couldn't find anything about series 2-3 about the j3's.
looks like i might just have to get the xcal 3 done

TI do j3's for AU2/3. The only issue I have is the aircon comes on when you turn the fan on.
So it's no fan or aircon. I think a few people have this issue.

T.I. Performance J3 Chips work in all AU (Series 1 to Series 3) Falcons, both V8 and 6 Cyl.

A couple of guys with 6 Cyl AUs on here said their A/C ran constantly when the fan is switched on. I asked for more info about the problem and none was provided. I have had many AU2/3 customers without these issues.

Hope this clears up some of the posts above!

Cheers,
Jason

but the question wasn't answered?? j3 or sct?

what is the difference?
what is best in terms of good results
which is the most cost effective
which one is the easiest DIY job

the difference is the j3 chip plugs into the bottom of your ecu and stays there.
the xcal is a hand held device the plugs into the diagnostic port in your fuse box. but this is only to write files to your ecu..

best in terms of results would depend on what your after. both do pretty much exactly the same thing..

the j3 is more cost effective due to the xcal costing up to $700 just for the xcal then there is tuning..

for diy the only option is in this case a j3 chip, the j3 tune can be modified and adjusted by yourself or a dyno tuner or ti performance..

the sct xcal and switch chip stuff is not diy, this is strictly reserved to sct dealers and tuning shops that have access to the software, so there is not much user interaction, meaning every time you want big changes to your tune you need to pay a tuner with the software to make the changes..

j3 it will have to be for me then..... no tuners around where I live.

So does a j3 do anything on a xr6 with full exhaust and CIA only? I wouldn't have thought so, only if I decided to get cams and headwork down the track.

A retune can provide a mild benefit to power and economy even on a standard engine, especially if you run Premium. Heaps of info to read on our website, link is in my sig.
