A guy at work and i were talking, his 180SX motors ecu has a self diagnostic test on it. Just runs through all the internals and sensors and uses a couple of lights to show whether or not they are working.

The fuel economy in my EF is up to s**t, and i would like to know if there is a similar system on the ecu for my car, so i can do a quick check on my own to see if there is an issue.

Or do i need to take it to Ford or some other reputable shop for them to look at it?

Its a real shame that so much was lost when FM crashed.

Will have to keep an eye on that doco, see if it magically rejuvinates!!

Lol, no hinting there :wink:

Maybe its the way you drive? I have an EB, and normally try for 480 kays out of 65 litres, or there abouts, varies with my week, but the other day on a longer run, with no hard acceleration, i got 511 kays out of 45 litres. Which is 8.8L per 100 kays, or 32 miles per gallon. WHich i was quite impressed with!

Nah, its not the way i drive, i get dragged off at lights by grandmas in their dihatsus!! :oops:

But seriously, i do drive it for economy, not speed. But, still the lowest i have got it on the highway is 9.3 L/100km. But around town it sits on 16.5 to 17 L/100km.

With having to make the trek out to uni everyday this year (25min rather than 10 to school) i really want to use a bit less fuel!!

In the meantime, does anyone actually know how to run the diagnostic test? Cause, as i said, i want to fix it.

For the 130 000km service, coming up shortly, i want to whack in a nice air filter and either an EL GT or and AU XR8 snorkel, maybe some plugs and leads, unsure about them yet, and fix up any other fuel chewing problems and see how much better i can get it.

A couple of quick questions on it though:
Can you reground the STO pin to the one below it like on the STI pin?
How does it actually output the codes, the LED/multimeter pulses 7 times for a 7 then waits 2 seconds then the next digit?
Do you only have to goose it once for all the seperator code tests?
Is this set of pins the ones on the upper left (i think) of the fuse block inside the car? (The picture wont load for me!!)

The multimeter will flash on the display for each digit. If you have a Fluke meter it will read OL. Just count these. You'll work it out quickly.

Yes the connector is in the fuse panel inside the car.
