Ticked over 120,000 (and of course the little spanner light shows) on my way up to the Sydney Dyno Day just past. Didn't notice until this week as I've been doing more start/stop driving (instead of highway), but its sooooo bad. Accelleration is sluggish, gear shifts are out of place, haven't gone though a full tank yet, so I'm unsure if fuel economy is suffering. So does the ECU suddenly go 'dumb' when its service time or is something else at fault. Is this money making for Ford?

I believe it is just coincidence per se.. It seems your auto gearbox requires a service! Can always remove the spanner and see if that helps...

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I did actually remove the service spanner from the dash on my EL after a service. Next day, albeit it did have a service, it went a lot better...
 It was pretty sluggish after getting it back, but after the spanner was gone, it really improved! 
Coincidence or truth, you be the judge!

I don't believe that the cluster can talk to the ECU. The ECU data link is most likely only one way.
Coincidence is my (somewhat educated) guess! Dang |

i think the car goes into a kind of limp home mode when the service light comes on. mine goes alot better once the light is turned off.

slightly off topic, but i have heard that the upmarket BMW's and mercs limit performance and top speed lower and lower gradually as you exceed the set service intervals

taximan, i agree.
the cluster holds the kms not the ecu, therefore it reads oh its 10k so its a service due now please. do your service when you please, some people do it 3000, some 5000, some 7500, some 10.. i do mine between the 4500-7 mark whenever i feel i wanna do it or its feeling crappy. so nothing to do with your car KNOWING when it needs anything! |

Agreed, coincidence - I think so!
From what Ive heard/read about these cars Ive never come accross anything like this, plus i havnt experienced it either, so my mind rests on the coincidence side rather than the fact side on this lil mystery.
