ok.. should thermos always be on (EF) even if the car is just started?
eg, start you car from cold, should the thermos instantly go onto low speed? i know their high speed kinda works.. jsut did a test, started the car, they werent on at all, put CC on auto and max cold, both went on to full speed, turned it off, they went back to low speed. why i ask is because my cars been gettin a bit hot recently, and i dont think they thermos are kicking into max speed. one time the car got hot (106 degrees) popped the hood and both fans were definatly not on high speed, fiddled with aircon, they went on to max for about 10 seconds then turned back down, while the car was still at abotu 100 degrees... now this isnt normal is it?

If you've got twin thermo's, i don't think they should be on, until a set temp. I didnt think that they ran, even slow, i was always under the impression that they are an on/off type setup.
I'm not 100% sure about this, but i know mine dont kick in, until the temp i have set with the Wolf ECU. |

ive got the twin thermos on my car, and previously they didnt even cut in and the car was overheating
so it all go rewired and they are always on. had no problem whatsover at all and the car doesnt overheat, no matter how much s**t i give it on hot days.

Might be best to check out a wiring diagram in conjunction with the doco http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=54 .
You've done the 'easy' test, also try the EEC test in the doco. Check your ECU diagnostics, as the 4 relays all have their own individual fault codes. Since you say you can get both fans to operate at full speed, I doubt the relays may be at fault, but the above should give you an idea just in case. The relays are easy enough to test individually anyway. To check the ECU side, plug in another auto EF ECU and test it - someone near you must have one ?? It's a pain but it will cover that area of testing.

Ive put EL fans on my ED and use the Wolf ecu to trigger them at 80deg, they both run together.

they will run constantly when the air con is on

I have an EA with EL dash and ECU, my fans only come on if the internal fan switch is on 3 or flat out. If on 1 or 2 the fans come on if the engine temp gets to a certain temp which is set by the ECU.
If a/c is not on they come on slow then fast as the temp gets above set points. As said do a KOEO test on the ECU and see what it says. I believe that the gearbox (auto) also has a say in if the fans come on when gearbox temp is too high.

i think its normal. had my car at 104 degrees and fans still running slow.
plugged in a resistor where temp sensor goes tricked it to be 107 degrees and fans where running at higher speed. i found fans will kick in when climate control is on and when the intereor gets cool it slows them back down. i think its kind of stupid to have the fans kick in that later specialy when coolant boils at around 105 degrees. have the fans prevent the car getting that hot insted of trying to bring the temp down when its already too hot. i just wired in a over ride switch for the fans to go at a faster speed. with fans runnin it was a 38 degree day towing a trailer through trafic and temp never got past 94 degrees.
