best to buy a k&n filter cleaning and recharge kit.
it consists of a spray cleaner that you spray on and rinse off, then it has a spray oil to re oil the filter.. cost about $30...usually only required every 50'000km |

Are all pods oil types? I was told there's 2 types . What does the oil do?

all k&n filters are oiled, only the cheapy ones are not..
the oil is there to attract and catch the fine dust that would normally get through a normal filter.. |

I just posted this on another thread but Ill stick it here for refrence think of it what you will.
Back on the "pod" topic for those of you who have done it. Looking at the photo posted of the airbox with the pod inside the pod filter does not seem to have any extra surface area than a standard panel filter. Makes all that effort kinda pointless in my opinion when you can just slap in a panel filter. Easiest way to size up your intake is to work backwards starting at the valves calculate the required airflow and work back from there. But in this case were not changing any component of the actual engine work back from the throttle body as that is the last component. Captain Obvious here is not to restrict this opening but lots of people go overkill on this. Whatever the size of the throttlebody is dont have any part of the intake flow less than that component. Bends, flanges / joins, intake sound deadning piping can all restrict to an extent. Larger bends & flanges / joins ad removal of sound muffling ( that pipe in the top of the airbox most of you have cut off already) can all help flow. A high flow filter has larger holes in its body as such resemble an opening closer to the size of the throttlebody. Snorkels are great in so many ways and I think Ford have done a pretty close job at size matching this you can always take a stanley to the opening if your keen you may pickup .001 Kw. Just DONT put a pod below the airbox & behind your bar as it will turn into a straw!! and suck up water.... You may think its obvious but I have seen it a few times.. Gee thats a novel and a half... |

And that's why they're proven to work better in most applications, if done right??
I have a pod, though it is encased behind the headlight, not hanging down open to the air like most people do. Going from a stock filter and intake, I run 6.7 seconds to 100. Using the pod setup, it drops to 6.4 seconds. To me, that's a definite gain. Maybe if I had a better flowing panel setup, it might flow better, but my pod works great.

That's hectic bro. maybe with a different filter you could shave half second off. Fully sick.

This proves one of two things; Either your original panel filter was so badly clogged that it might as well have been made of concrete; Or; Your timings are significantly out;

pod or panel? get what ever is cheapest
only thing that ive seen gain kw's from changing to an aftermarket airfilter has been most big bore motorbikes that are properly dyno tuned.

with my intake setup there was 0.5-1rwkw difference with having the intake on compared to straight out the throttle body. That could also be the difference between dyno runs, so there is pretty much no restriction with mine.

Anyone got any tips on how to make a larger replacement adapter to go from the airbox outlet to the start of the rest of a 3 inch intake on an EL? As I live on a dust road I don't want to trust the way Autospeed did theirs of flaring out a bit of 3 inch PVC...All I can think is making a metal replacement adapter and sealing it with an o-ring, or just lumping it and use the stock adapter. It's 55mm but only for a very tiny amount, and apparently that WON'T affect flow very much at all.
