I was under the impression that the EGAS engines are meant to run Iridium plugs ... I decided to replace mine today as it is due for it's service ... and seeing as i bought the vehicle above 3000km ago.

I pulled the plugs out and found:

1) the bastards were nearly fused to the engine (broke a few taking them out)
2) they weren't Iridium plugs
3) were fairly worn ... and the electrode was white ... with a few dark spots on it
4) the ceramic section and above the hex nut was dirty (ie: soil/mud).

OK ... the dirt part got me ... but the engine bay is spot less ... unless it is some sort of deposit they get after being high pressure washed ... I dunno.

I am surprised I haven't had backfiring problems with standard NGK R plugs in (have now replaced with Iridium IX plugs).

Also looks like the plug was getting a little too hot as it exhibits characteristics of getting too hot.

I think the previous mechanic didn't know what he was doing ... I think he put them in with a rattle gun ... they were a b**ch to get out that's for sure ... especially if I snapped the ceramic as I was trying to undo them.

I made sure I didn't overtighten them putting them in.

Any thoughts comments from anyone???

PS: I was going to put the new leads in ... but I took a closer look ... and it's a real b**ch trying to find the coil packs ... and I had to get ready for work ... I just didn't have the time to fiddle with it. I'll leave it to a more competant person to replace

they could be the irridum plugs if they were tight to pull out

as they dont get removed all that often for inspection

if you have put the iridiums in make sure u take em out every 10,000k's and give em a good clean and check the plug gap!

the leads are easy if u do 1 at the time...
coil pack under the intake maifold

remove the airbox makes it a bit easier

I'll give the igntion leads a go when I have some extra spare time ... was just short on time when I was getting around to them ... I'll pull the airbox out next time.

Yeah ... that's what I was told ... I gotta cut the cable ties also around the cable tube too (and they are halfway down between the pipes on the intake manifold ... fun).

Jase and Joe told me the same thing ... one cable at a time.
Just need a bit of time ... and some patience.
