are speed limiters on a standard falcon different then a fairmont?? coz I can get 191Km/h out of mine before cutout.

Which happily falls into the 10% lee-way for speedo inaccuracy.

A speed cut defender is available, a lot of the japanese import boys use them, all it does is keeps giving the ECU the accurate speedo pulses until a given speed is reached, say 170km/h or so, then it keeps the pulses at the same frequency, no matter how fast you go so the ECU thinks you're only going 170.

Bah, believe the revenue raisers.. ahem, the road safety experts, every 5km/h over the limit you go is equivalent to being 0.05 BAC. Theoretically, I should be dead many times over :)

well if ure gonna go that fast anyway make sure u but tail shaft loops in, afaik the reason for the limiter was becaus high speeds caus the drive shaft to snap.
The XR's FBT and GT got a better driveshaft and hence why the do not have a limiter in place.
The cheapest option is probably to get an XR ECU, but as i suggested get tail shaft loops, one snapping at 200 km/h probably wont be fun ay

i think speed limiter came in on EB seris II... when i looked at a EB XR8 about 6 months ago the guy said it was the last model before speed limiters... my cousins EA 5 speed mont would sit on 200 so that wasnt limited

I think you will find that the speed limiters started with the EF when they went over to the EEC V drive train controllers.

My old man's ED with the EEC4 certainly cuts out at 180km/h.

On the dyno of course. Doing it elsewhere would be dangerous. Or something.

Well then that would have started with the EB II EEC IV intergrated drive train controller because in the EA II & EB they had a seperate controller for the transmission.

mine cuts out at 190 but then again the ecu thinks it ment to have 3:27 not 3:08 like it does have. XR's and ex cop cars are limited to 210 on XR6's, XR8's are limited to 240 on EB-AU's everything else should be limited to 180 unless of course diff change or inacurate speedo.

I hear that the manuals wherther XR or not are not limited. Can anyone actually confirm this or is it not true? I dont wanna take my car too fast as a result of the tailshaft being of the snappable variety....

And its illegal.....

Not true, at least not for AU's.
Auto or manual, if its not an XR its 180kph limited.

Some were, some were not. It seems strange, some XR6's (and XR8's) seem to have no limiter, others had 240 and others (like mine) were 210kph.
In the end it doesnt matter, 210 is more than enough in most cases and, if it isnt, get a Chiptorque chip and remove it entirely (like me  )

I'm not certain, however, I believe the utes where limited due to having a longer tail shaft.

Yep, all the utes were 180kph limited as they had a VERY long tailshaft.
