I think the speed limiter issue has been well covered if you do a search.
Remember this is a public forum you have posted up pictures of your pride and joy complete with your no. plates and this isn't where anyone should be boasting about speeding safely or otherwise!!? With suitable changes to your tailshaft it could be safe to remove the speed limiter with a chiptorque or a police ecu swap. However you would be better off spending the money on improving the cars performance in areas that you could actually use more often and on the street. |

or you could chase up one of the "speed cut defender" devices, only 3 wires need to be disturbed (+12v,GND, and the speed wire) a bit of calibration with a laptop. and your off, ive got one, but decided im not putting it in (i know myself too well for that) im keeping it letting its value appreciate or one day i may actually have enough money to work my car for some serious drag use untill then i just dont think about it.

cds70 wrote: Perhaps people have assumed a number of things from you original post, and all be it brief, and you really can't blame them.
But you have to agree, when someone simply says they want to go faster than 180kph, then you can safely draw a number of conclusions, which you have confirmed in you lastest post. That is; Farmers DO mind if you use their roads at 180+kph. I would suggest to you that they don't know you are doing these speeds???? They also do not want their roads damaged by this type of driving, nor do they want the dust that comes from it........because if you live in the country these roads would not be sealed??? Also consider that if you are doing these speeds, as is you mate, either behind, infront, or to the side of you, then what about the other people who are also using these roads. Are they expecting you to arrive at 180+??? What about the other young guy/s doing exactly the same thing as you, but in the opposite direction???? BANG! OUCH! Don't worry you won't feel a thing, it will be all over before you know it. These types of speed are only suitable in a controlled environment circuit/strip. Country roads, whether private or not, are not controlled as you have suggested in an earlier post. In NSW the law considers private roads in very much the same manner as public roads, and you will be held accountable for your actions. At the end of the day you have to live with the actions of your driving, as will many other people who may be involved. Yes I have gone overboard, but I have seen far too many young people of your age using their mates, or themselves for that matter, as sun sades across the front windscreens of their cars. You need to think long and hard about what you are suggesting. As for the technical specs, I'll leave that for someone else to take up , as I've taken too much time now. Take it on-board, and not personally. We all want to be hear for a long time. Sorry to single you out Cds. Yes, I do agree that my first post was quite breif and should have contained more detail. As we all know, Speed is a very sensitive issue, especially amoungst young drivers. When I say private road, i mean a road that a farmer has built for his/her own personal use. The road I used was quite wide and long with nothing but soft sand either side. The farmer knew that I was there as he agreed to let me in and have a run. The road was compleatly sealed and had only recently been built so it was smooth, and free from holes and dips. I agree that the speed limiter is there for a reason and I wasnt sure if it was there for any specific reason. For all I know It may have been an ADR requirement in those days. I must agree that money could be spent elsewhere on upgrades and what not but when those upgrades get so much that the car goes 0-100 in a matter of seconds, where do you go then? I know I would be off to the track! But If I was to hit a straight, Peg it and only reach 180, I would be p****d. Mabey the next thing on my list should be a new veem tail shaft from the new info that I have just read. But If I can pick up an EX-Chaser ECU, of course I am going to get that first. As for other road users, Like I have posted before, I dont speed on the streets. Insurance is killing me enough as it is!!!! Cant afford any tickets. |

Does anyone know if the police chasers have SPECIAL tailshafts or can we expect to see POLE VAULTING police cars when the young "police hoons" take the chase cars for a run (or try to catch my GTHO

tailshaft upgrade = good.
but also - look at your transmission (especially if you're running an auto) - suspension - brakes - rubber all important for a safe ride.

You could impress us by showing us some pics of your 300mm front brake upgrade, 287 is as big as it gets on EF/L Falcon spindles.....
A tape measure as reference in the pic would be good, I am always keen to see how people have engineered new brakes on their cars. I know the work I have gone through to fit up my Brembos and rotors, so would love to see how you did it, especially seeing its the same series car. |

Yes, police chasers have different tailshafts to the standard cars. They have a steel shaft in place of the common alloy unit found in all common Falcons.

Being from a farming family, i have never known of a sealed road long enough to do those speeds on anywhere in australia, not even runways for the RFDS in the outback are sealed..... |

CD's I hope you didnt misread my post, I just pasted in wadesta whatevers s**t and put doubt into his sealed road story. He is only young, and obviously wet behind the ears, and thinks speed is what makes people think you are cool.
Wade, the first mod you should consider, is doing some driving courses, and possibly a bit of rallying experience before you start trying to drive that speed. Remember, you are a long time dead!!! |

No Stroker, it didn't think you where having a go at me........I had to read it a couple of times though!
I don't think it matters what you say to Wade, he just wants to go fast, lets hope he survives long enough to be in our position. I lived in the country for a long time, and there is no way what he is saying can be true. Particularly about farmers and sealed road. Sorry Wade, it sounds very doubtful. As for the specs on his car, well you clearly know exactly what you are talking about. Anyway, this post has received FAR too much of my attention, given the potential result. Cheers Chris |

Why not just put in a front tail shaft hoop. It's very easy to do and cheap.
It is suggested to do if you install the shift kit as well |

Because, at high speed, a tailshaft carries alot of energy, and will still be being driven by the diff, and it will flog about in the loop, tearing it out, and due to being contained, probably come through the floor, taking off your legs, and then on to the groung, pole vaulting you over the bonnet for the best case of forhead gravel rash you will ever recieve.
If you want to go fast, build safety into the car, but firstly, learn to drive, then tyres, then brakes, then more learning to drive, then suspension, then more power, and hopefully, by this stage, you are a competant enough driver to realise that high speed anywhere other than a racetrack is bloody stupid, and wont attempt it. |
