Hi i have a 97 el fairmont .
Q. does it have speed sensitive steering or is it only the ghia ?
also a friend of mine has a el fairmont ghia & her sss is super easy all the time so at speed it is a bit sketchy ,is there a speed sensor for the rack that needs changing

the steering is not getting firmer at speed on my friends el ghia ,i had a mazda 626 turbo with speed sensitive steer & it had the same problem at speed ,it was a sensor switch on the gearbox ,do the fairmont ghia's have a sensor ?

The EL uses output from the ECU to control a variable valve at the steering rack.
It goes from maximum assistance at low speed, to minimum assistance at road speed. I don't know what the speeds are at which is changes though.

Also my el fairmont steer is quite stiff well not as easy as the ghia & not as easy as a ef fairmont i had ,do i need new rack ? it has new steer pump & all hoses new rack ends & tie rod ends new ball joints , any ideas?
