The other day i went back to BPT to get some sense out of how the wiring has been configured for the Sequentail Sports Shift (SSS) in my car.
What i have in the car is a plug with four wires (one spare) running from the main loom and finishing just near where the shifter is to be mounted. I decided to run a multimeter across these three wires, one wire reads 5.05v, the second wire reads 5.05v and the third wire (which i assume is the PCM earth) reads zero. I have attached longer wires to the PCB on the shift lever to make testing a bit easier. The three wires on the shift PCB are blue, green (red trace) and brown. The green/red wire i assume by the diagram is an earth to the ECM, the blue wire should be connected to ECM pin B43 and the brown wire to be connected to ECM pin B45. Connecting these wires from the shift PCB to the loom running to the ECM and activating the tiptronic mode on the shift does absolutely nothing. I tried testing the shift circuitry with a multimeter but was unable to get any readings. What can i do to see if the PCB is faulty? I have attached a wiring schematic straight from the Ford worshop manual, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction as to what i'm doing wrong. If i have done everything correctly, i'll have no choice but to take the car back to BPT to have the problem sorted =( Attachment: Thank's in advance for any help you can provide |

You're analysis is correct, you'll get 5V, GND, and a signal wire.
On the loom plug (that goes into the PCB on the shifter) 3 is gound 2 is 5v 1 is the magical signal wire. and should be sky blue. It'll change voltage depending on the shifter location (D 3.96v, PERF 2.88B, + 1.83, - 0.78) (it's a 6 pin plug with one missing, the side with 3 are 1,2 and 3. the missing pin would be 6). Hope this helps.

Unfortunately i lopped the plug off the shifter PCB (doh ), so would i be correct in assuming that: -Green/Red = pin 3 ground............to ECM earth -Brown = pin 2 5v............to ECM pin B45 (VREF) -Lt Blue = pin 1 signal............to ECM pin B43 What i just noticed then, on the diagram, ECM pin B45 has VREF, which i assume would stand for voltage reference therefore meaning the Lt Blue (signal) wire should be attached to this? I've run the multimeter across the terminals of the shifter PCB to get a resistance figure, but can't manage to get a reading to see if the PCB is falty or not. IF i have connected everything properly (as above) and nothing is working, what should i be looking for or what am i doing wrong? Again, i greatly appreciate your help. |

The Green/Red is the signal earth.
The Brown (my doco calls it Brown/White) is a 5V source for sensors. Not where the light blue goes to. The light blue goes to ECU pin B43

Ahh righto, i think that's the way i had it all connected before but nothing worked. I'll have another play around with it tomorrow and see what i can get to work, if anything. I might have just scored a shifter with a bodgy PCB

I assume you're running a B series ECU? If not it won't work as of course the previous ECUs didn't have SSS code in them.

Yes, running a 2003 BA ECM, i'm 99.9% sure the transmission is being run by this and not the EL ECM.
