Im looking for advise on which is better.
I have an EL running XR head, cam, ECU etc and have been advised to stick with the STD fuel reg as the XR version 'over-fuels' Has anybody got any firm results with this? Car goes very well with STD in place but i have an XR one sitting there. Thanks in advance.

Yes i can definatley say that the XR fuel reg over fuels in my experance, even with mods in sig. Can easily make it use 18ltr/100km.
At the moment it is about 15.5/ltr per 100km thou. At night i can clearly see unburnt fuel in the lights of cars behind me. with a chip, maybe it would be worth while

Not sure. But remember the Tickford ECU's are tuned to suit the XR/Tickford fuel pressure regulator. Also you've got the oxy sensor which should adjust if it's over fueling.

1: Leaner engines produce more power
2: Too lean = too hot + detonation etc 3: Falcons run RICH!!! 4: Lower fuel pressure will produce more power XR reg = higher fuel pressure = lower power. EEC will learn its way around most changes you make to fuel pressure tho.

Could this be the reason why at WOT around 5K rpm it pings its a*** off and blows a nice big cloud of unknown smoke out the back? If its leaning right out at high RPM, would i be safer using the XR reg?

Has that nice browny-black colour? Lovelly. Im suprised to hear its THAT bad with an XR cam, ecu etc. It'll prob be one of the following - too lean (xr reg may help... but sounds like its way off... ) - too much advance (its an EL, yeah?? Check base timing on dizzy) - carbon built up in engine - poor quality fuel (you run 98RON? if not... do!) - poor tune... i.e. combo of fueling/timing (but its std xr ECU, yeah?)

yeh well its in a workshop for a few probs atm.
Inlet manifold gasket leak for starters (could explain a bit) The head is fresh so carbon should be out of the question. Running Bp ultimate all day everyday New dizzy installed, not trusting the guy who set my timing at all, so that will be re-checked without the air leaks. It will be interesting to see if any of this has an effect on it.

Yep, get those airleaks sorted first and foremost... or else you're just running around in circles.
Should be able to check base timing ok tho... im not 100% on the 6 cyl specs... but fairly simple process (involves putting the ecu into diagnostic mode).
