My Mekanik tells me the purge valve in the charcoal canister is gone, and the whole thing needs to be bought as a whole for $300 ish, or I can put up with the fuel smell, which I am!
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative? Maybe an aftermarket valve etc? Just as a background for those who understand this as its not up my alley, the canister takes unburnt fuel from when engine under high revs, store in charcoal canister, then valve lets fuel back to manifold to be burnt whilst idling. Broken valve, full canister, overflows and smells, but really only when driving with windows down, not done often in Winter.

were does the charcoal canister sit in the els
in the ea it is near the bolts that hold the front reo and yeah can't you simply get a canister from the wreckers and just replace the canister??

OK the carbon cannister on an EL sites just behind the passenger side front corner indicator. The fuel smell is a fairly common problem on the falcons and happens regardless of whether the cannister is saturated or not. Happens mostly in warmer weather... but i dunno how warm nth NSW is at the moment You can try a couple of things... like removing the cannister from the car and leaving it so sit out in the sun for a day or so. You can also extend the vent line to somewhere you wont smell it. I think this was the "official" ford fix to the problem. Or if it is indeed the purge valve then you could go and get one from a wrecker.... f**k paying $300 for a new system.

Do you know if I need the whole canister or just the valve? I have not even looked under the bonnet since the mek told me last service let alone spied what it looks like.
What do you reckon would be reasonable $$ for either part from wrecka?
