i bought a tickford auto ecu and got a hold of the xr6 fuel reg. but then i was reading some stuff on here and people were saying that its better to run the standard reg? im getting head work done and have a mild crow cam to go in and im just wondering whether its worth putting in the new ecu or just leave the standard one in with standard fuel reg? anyone be able to help? cheers

the shift points for the auto are base on the wheel speed the ECU sees. the speedo gear must match the ecu to get the right shift points. the options are (if your diff gears do not match the ECU) a speedo that reads right but the shift points. or the right shift points with a speedo that reads wrong. if you have matching ECU, speedo drive and diff gears there is no problem. as for the feul reg and ECU. to make power you need the right amount of feul and the right ignition timming. when you start changing things you upset the feul and spark delivery. the XR ECU was tunned at the factory with the feul pressure from the XR reg. Falcons tend to run rich, if you fit an XR ECU to stock GLI engine you MIGHT gain a small amount of power by using the lower pressure reg. In your case you will have a NONE STOCK ENGINE, No one can say one way or the other what will make more power FOR YOU. play with what you have. run a GLI ECU and XR reg and see what happens, swap to an XR ECU and XR reg, then XR ECU and GLI reg. what ever has the best end result is what YOU should use. but at the end of the day a custom tuned ECU will out perform all of the above. |
