I have an EL computer that I want to run but my car isnt smartlock,

What does the BEM take its signals from?

Is it relatively simple to wire up the BEM and Ignition barrel and just have them hidden under the passenger seat? obviously I would have the ignition barrel set to "ON" but only use this ignition barrel to trick the smartlock rather that use it to start the car.

What are the problems with this setup?

Cheers

Point to note- I have the EL computer+ access to the mid series BEM+ ignition barrel without a key.

That will work.

awsome, what does the BEM need to see so that it tell the computer everything is A-OK. Also is the signal from the ignition barrel a wave at a certain frequency or a voltage?

there's a four wire connector from the barrel to the BEM, 2 are for power (+ and -) the other two are an unknown signal, although it appears to be a wave of some kind that is actually a data stream containing the barrels identification codes - 3 of them the BEM needs to know all three and receive at least two of them to enable the EEC.

I do this ( a second hidden barrel) to fool smartlock so my remote start alarm works.

oh, and you'll need a key for the spare barrel, or you'll have to find a way to disassemble it and then figure out what is needed to activate the smartlock bit of it.

I know it works of the key position, and can get it to work without the lock barrel in place but the ignition switch part has a strong spring in it forcing it to return to off, so I didn't get to anything more permanent.

If i take the barrel to a locksmith would he be able to make a key for it? the problem is that the key for this barrel was stolen.

Also can you elaborate on what you mean here-

Quote:
- 3 of them the BEM needs to know all three and receive at least two of them to enable the EEC.

I think you mean that 3 of the connectors need to be connected and that at least two of them are sending a signal?

I really apreciate your help.

no, there's four wires. one +, one -, and two for the signal.

Over the signal pair, 'codes' are sent. The smartlock part of the barrel has three digital codes embedded in it. At Ford (or when you relearn the BEM), it learns those three codes, and requires at least two of the three be received correctly before the BEM will send the unlock command to the EEC.

Having the key in and in the on (II) position sends two of the codes, pushing it to start (III) sends the third code as well. For my purposes I have the second barrel in on position 100% of the time so it sends two of the codes.

What goes over the two signal wires I am not 100% sure on. I don't have the required equipment (an oscilloscope for example) to be able to read them myself.

that good

Does the BEM need anything else apart from the codes from the ignition barrel to allow the engine to start?

Also will i need a smartlock remote?

No, I'm running an EL ECU, an EF High Series BEM, and EF high series dash loom, it all works fine. Car's an EL.

Having said that. If you have EL dash loom an EF BEM won't plug in (and vise-versa).

no, the remotes have NOTHING to do with immobilisation.

(I'm having a shocker today, soon as I click Submit, another idea pops into my brain).

You'll need to wire up enough of the BEM to provide power to the smartlock module, now that comes from the courtesy light fuse on EF/EL's so I guess you'd need to wire up the right power lines into the BEM.
