Haha. If that was all a bit too technical for you, that's why we do Custom Pre-Programmed Chips! :)

Just something i'm wondering about.. if for eg I use an ef 8cyl bin and it has the spark table at a different address than the one the ecu comes with stock does it still work fine as the whole bin itself knows where everything is or is it something else in the ecu expecting the spark table to be at a certain address, so using an xr8 bin with a spark table at a different address than the stock bin will confuse it ?
Just trying to figure how it all works.

It works fine. When the J3 is installed, the factory ROM is no longer accessed.

I think I've managed about as much as i'm able to do with adding the trans stuff. Most appears to work but there are a few which are clearly marked with ??? that whilst seem like they should match up with the earlier xdf's and the results are rational the actual figures seem to be too far from the figures in the earlier xdf that i'm unsure about.

So if anyone has an AU auto it would be great if you can check them out and test the shift patterns.

Hey mate,

Good work! I see what you mean about those ??? tables, a couple look like 3rd and 4th have been swapped over. I will need to sit down and compare side by side with EF as I am most familar with that.

I also noticed your N9XJ4 is a little out of date compared to the one on the site. Will need to merge the two lots of changes.

To thank you for your work on the defs, I will sort you out with some gear off the site. Shoot me a PM with what you'd like.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason,

I bought one of your chips a while back to suit these mods:
1997 Ford Falcon EL XR6 - Auto, with 3:45 LSD, stock ECU
- 2.5in Cat Back
- Wade 1636 Cam
- Stage two shift kit
- AU injectors
- Extractors (similar design to the Pacemaker 4499, but no mandrel bends, 43mm primary and 47mm secondary).

Since then I have had to rebuild the engine and my mechanic had tuned the car manually while the chip was installed.
The car is running beautifully, and is better than ever.

However, I would now like to convert it to Manual.
Would I be required to re-tune the chip? or will if be fine if I simply trick the ECU?
Or, do you recommend me get a Manual ECU and get another Chip?

Thank you

Peter. P

Howdy Peter,

Glad its been running well!

While there's nothing stopping you doing the resistor trick, I'd recommend getting the chip retuned to suit the manual. We don't have to change anything else, and this will ensure you get proper idle, etc.

A retune is $100 from the site. There is no need for a manual ECU as the chip overrides the tune anyway.

Cheers,
Jason

How exactly does the 4-3shift settings work etc. I can't seem to grasp the idea for some reason and how to set it. Basically I want it to shift down from 4th to 3rd etc much sooner than it does (or with less throttle)
Am I even looking at the right thing, I assumed it would be vacuum based or something so it tells you are struggling to make it up a hill and shifts back, but yeah no idea.

Hi mate,

They are not vacuum based, but Tailshaft RPM and TPS. If you want it to kick down earlier, lower the rpm at each throttle position you want changed and go for a test drive. Make sure you're not mistaking third for forth without lockup, people assume they drop a gear up hills but they unlock the convertor first.

Cheers,
Jason

Hey Jason, you said when going from auto to manual to change the dashpot info to what would be in a manual tune, I have done so for my conversion, but now the engine rev hangs at whatever rpm I was at in gear when I put the clutch in (under 3k).

I want to edit the dashpot data how I'd like but I'm not sure what it means...

wut is X Y Z? lol

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Tyler,

If you are having rev hang issues like that, I would be looking elsewhere. A vacuum leak, leaky modified throttle body, or sticky ISC are the main causes. Also make sure your base idle is set correctly, following the guide at http://www.tiperformance.com.au/Technic ... 20Chip.pdf

With the Dashpot function, what you have labeled as y is time, and z is the decay rate. Increase this value (use the multiplier function) to get the idle to return to base idle faster after being on the accelerator.

Cheers,
Jason

Hey Jason, I've done a few F2E reader dumps from some manual and auto ECU's, and they show up with all 15.998 no's in the Y and Z fields according to Tunerpro RT. The dump seems to go okay through the EECreader.exe. The ECU's have KAP(12v) and earth connected. I think I'm using the correct definitions to read them too.
Is this correct ??

Sounds like you have the wrong def. You should look at the dumps in a hex editor to see whether they are good - look for the Ford strategy text towards the end of the bank to see whether it's legible and what def to use.

Jason
