hey guys, im looking at making up an economy tune for a standard manual XH, until there is a def file i can use i was going to just copy the EB/ED fuel and spark values into an EL bin then add timing and pull fuel. not too fussed on performance atm so long as it wont effect economy. so just wondering if there is much of a difference between the eb/ed tune vs the XH with log?

if you're able to access the XH fuel and spark maps, could you perhaps either post it or pm it to me?
i'd be happy to make up an EL bin with XH values.

Hey mate.
I recently tried an xh manual ecu in my ed xr6 (fault finding) and it ran sweet. Couldn't really notice much difference.

i know it will run but power and economy should be different seeing as the upped compression between the 2 engines.
but thats good to know.
i'll post back with any results i have i guess.

I had the xh ecu in for about 400km. No noticeable difference in power and economy. There may be some benefits but seat of the pants it felt the same.

I doubt you'll do much better than a std XH tune - already has lean cruise mode, fuel cut off on decel, etc. Playing with the AFR's without monitoring with a wideband O2 is asking for trouble.
Best thing you can do is do a BBM conversion and run an EL tune. Gives you a bit more torque between 50-80 kmh. And the XH's already run thermo fans and have a knock sensor, so that's all covered.

Has anyone worked out where the Acceleration Enrichment tables are in an EF bin (4TBD)? I am busy tuning my EF XR6, with a lot of success. One problem I am getting is that it momentarily goes way lean (about 16 AFR) when I snap the throttle open, and way rich (about 12 AFR) when I quickly let off the throttle, before it settles back to the programmed steady state AFR. This going lean is going to limit the amount of spark advance I can give it. Flooring it from 3000 rpm will likely cause knock at MBT for about a second until the fuel catches up. I don't want to go too crazy with the advance with this risk sitting out there.

Thanks for the help.

(And then, EFXR6WAGON, I will send you my J3 and you can put the tune on for me... Just out of idle curiosity....)

Hey Fiend,

Sensible idea, but a tune that is fine-tuned for my mods is unlikely to be ideal for yours. It might even make your car run worse.

Best bet is to send your chip to Jason at TI Performance with a list of your mods (and a dynoplot with AFR, if you have it), and he will do a custom tune and burn it onto your chip for about A$100, I think. My TI Performance custom-tuned chip was a big improvement over stock. Jason's been tuning Falcon J3 chips for a long time, so he knows what works. He's a big help for a newb like me in getting my tune working.

Snap it runs rich. Can smell it in the oil and exhaudt. Until I have the money to replace s**t that's old and service it I really just want some more economy.
Was thinking of just increasing the injector slope a tiny bit rather than mess with the tune etc.
I do have a wideband but won't bother installing it til I put a cam in.

Well I'd think it maybe might be better to run a std EL tune for the meantime ??

Thanks for that. I got the J3 about five years ago and never got around to tuning it. It is running the second instalment from Jason B's guestimations already. But, hey - I did look at your engine spec's before suggesting it by the way.

As it happens the car is running BETTER without the J3 chip installed at all right now. Which is why I figure I can do something random with the data on it and see what happens.

Coz, at the moment, the J3 is floating around in the foot well collecting dust and debris. Kind of silly place for it to be.

Quite right. I agree entirely. I suppose I should put the ECU back into the kick panel one day. If I can find that damn kick panel. When people get in the passenger seat with wet feet I put a towel over the ECU's at least.
