Yeah, there is a copy of the 4DCC.bin.

It just doesn't work with any of the strats. he has listed.

if you could make it that would be sweet!!

I think the address is 0x2CEE4, but that's as much as I know.

Maybe Jason could add it to his list on the site too.

What do you mean 4DBG/N4AGB doesn't work on this ecu? What are your symptoms?

It should work fine. There is no need for another definition.

Have been using N4AG9/4TAC.

AFR's are all over the place, have used the excell spreadsheet to fine tune the VE table but after 14 attempts gave up on that. Getting better results tuning in graph mode.

Also goes way lean at part throttle during warmup (I'm talking 20:1+) and nothing seems to fix it. Tried startup, base and stabilized table mods but still same result.

Spark is strange, high load 2000-5000 wants 18-22º. Idle is around the 28º mark and decel bucks like mad with less than 36º and 15:1AFRs mostly between 2300 and 1800. Range gets bigger with less timing/more fuel.

VE table looks all wrong. 22-84 and still rich. Had to increase injector slope to get these numbers.

Car barely runs with a base tune, massive pinging at WOT, rich out of range of the wideband, still goes lean at PT warmup, and won't idle.

Have just made a tune using N4AGB/4DBD to try.

Why do you think the strategy is causing this? The car runs perfectly on 4DCC? If so why are you tuning it?

You don't detail any mods, but hundreds of cars have been tuned with the existing bin/defs without such issues. I don't think another def is your answer.

Cheers,
Jason

4DCC? That is what my original post was about.

I have been using the bin and def you custom-programmed the chip with, 4TAC/N4AG9.

I have been persevering with this strategy as I figured you would know what works best.

However the original tune was not working too well, thought maybe you had underestimated the setup I'm running, so I purchased a programmer and 4-tune switch off you to do some tweaking.

I have got it running much better, but adjustments are having random effects.

I never said the strategy was the problem. I'm not blaming anyone or anything. I simply asked if anyone had that strategy because the 4DCC bin from your site doesn't look right when opened with N4AGB or N4AG9, or N4MG3.
In the HEX, the strategy is N4AFF, which I've never heard of.

I've checked all mechanical and electrical possibilities multiple times, every sensor is working as it should.

Im using one of Techedge's higher end units (3E2) to monitor and log.

I'm now just trying different things to see what effects they have, and the strategy on the chip is on the list of things to try.

Unplugging the chip makes the car very difficult to drive, and it will not idle below 1100rpm.

The car is an EF Fairmont, non Tickford engine I6.
ECU is 4DCG.
Auto has been tossed for a low-ratio T5
Wiring changed to suit.

My engine is a long way off standard spec internally,
12.2:1 compression
Race ported ED XR6 head
Very long duration and overlap full race cam
Tuned length headders
Mustang billet aluminum flywheel, 1/2 the weight of the standard EF unit
Custom made water/methanol injection with adjustable triggers and flow
Plus other small things like induction, AU injectors, fuel pump, XR reg, etc.

I only asked the question to see why you think the 4DCC strategy would solve your issue. Your answer tells me you're just wanting to try different things. I'm trying to say the strategy won't be the issue.

When diagnosing problems, it's best to keep things simple. I would remove the switch from the equation, disable any water/meth, and start again from either the tune I provided or a fresh base tune if you desire. 28 deg at idle is unheard of for me, normally I aim for 16-20, and 22 at high load is extremely low - even at 12:1 comp. Make small changes at a time, and document each change in a log file, including what effect it had on the tune.

Are you sure you may not have a fuel supply issue? Vacuum leak under certain conditions?

Cheers,
Jason

PS: Sorry I can't put names to forum nicknames, most of the time people don't mention them in their order and even if you do it's hard to remember them!

Cheers Jason

Have checked vac and fuel. All seems good.

Dropped idle spark to around 25. Any less and it starts to run rough.

Turning off the water/meth induces bad pinging even with heaps of fuel and 18-22º adv from 2200 to 5000 so I'll leave it on.

It's now raining again so no more road testing today. Although tune still needs work, anything over half throttle above 3500 is not possible on wet road.

Just wondering if something like your four tune selector switch can be used on a B series car, or if there is some similar product that can perform the same functions?

We've updated our DIY Guides to cover boost tuning for SD cars, clarified spark tuning for the same, as well as cleaned up the TechEdge and Programmer installation guides to make them easier to read and cover some common problems. Check them out at http://www.tiperformance.com.au/library/diy-guides/

I see you (thanks to Kendall Baker) have also added transmission control to the AU tune files. Awesome! Time to swap the tuning pack over to the AU and wring it out. Thanks heaps!

On Friday night, Melbourne Old School Cruisers held an ANZAC day meet and cruise at Chadstone shopping center. We went down and took a few pics - some mint cars and bikes about, and a huge turnout!
