Ive got several of the EL bins, including a 6DFD which I believe is a 185KW bin, as the car it came off has an Explorer and the GT extractors were fitted to it from factory, but they are now on my car (and soon to come back off again hopefully) Ive already got a 6TJA EL GT bin which is auto, I dont really need a manual GT bin, as I kinda made one, but it would just be nice to have.

The 185kW engine was only fitted to the XR? If so a 185kW bin would be coded 6Txx ('T' for Tickford).

None of the EL V8 bins are coded tickford, apart from the ELGT. The EL that I got the 6DFD from is one of the last 98 model ones that they built, as Ford tried to convince the owner on to an AU. It hadt all the 185KW bits that they put on them from factory, so Im assuming its a safe bet to claim that it is. He has had it from new, so he also knows all thats been done to it, and all that its got is a set of ROH mags, set of Genie's and an exhaust.

I also know someone with a series 2 EL XR8 and it's definately the 6DFD. Oh, how I've tried to get him to swap it with the 6DFC... he won't have a bar of it! Looks like I won't be needing it now though...

The bloke I've been helping out has a EL2 auto XR8 and its catch code is 6DHE. It's out of a 1998 model too but yes an auto.

For the record, I have a DL ECU in my ED wagon and its catch code is 6DGE. Does that mean I'm in the s**t ditch?

The 6DHD/6DHE are both EL XR8 auto bins, Ive got the 6DHD from an EL2 XR8.

Your 6DGE is just another revision of the fairmont/fairlane ghia bins, there wont be much different between them, about 300 bytes total from the 256k bin

I just picked up an EL Tickford Ghia ECU for 31 bucks.. will be handy as a baseline for comparison with the modified bin.. so when needed like perhaps on a dyno I can see how effective the changes to the bin have been in fixing short commings in AFR on the factory XR6 bin.

can't complain about the price... :-)

yeah, pretty stoked.. The guy selling it made the mistake of just calling it an EL Ghia computer..

everyone seems to search for ECU, so no-one found it..

the price may change, but it will still be reasonable. i will look after anyone who buys a chip now.

if you are interested, use the site http://www.techcore.com.au/eec to buy. I need someone to test it :)

I have the money put aside for one now. I will buy a pre programmed chip for now and the writer when they come available.

Of all things, i am waiting for my credit card to arrive in the mail, so as soon as that gets here, i'll be testing one for you.

yup its possible, Ive made my bin that Im running on my J3 chip out of a 6DFC and 6TJA bins, one being auto, one being manual, with a little bit in there from myself as well. Just need to start out with what you want as the base bin, be it auto or manual, and then do a difference search with TunerPro from the start parameter location (look at 0x22060 and it will read 08 01 then the LSB first location of the start of the bin parameters). Then compare the bins, if you have not defined the differences, then this will be an eye opener, but a well defined ECU will be fairly straight forward, and make changes from there.
