What output does the ECU provide to the SPSS unit? Could it be done some other way?

There is not yet a way to enable SPSS in a manual bin, but we can lower the dashpot in an Auto bin to alleviate rev hang etc. Resistor 'trick' still required for this kind of setup.

Cheers,
Jason

That's probably the best way for it to be done then I guess, considering it already has the resistor trick done.
Is lowering the dashpot setting the only thing that really changes between manual and auto for idle?
Will this also stop the rev drop and occasional stall on decell?

Hmm, how can you get both rev hang AND rev drop on decel?

Sounds like you may have an issue with your ISC working properly if you are getting a drop/stall symptom. It's common for EF's to blow the output driver for the ISC in the ECU, but EFs didnt have SPSS so im guessing you dont have one.

clean the throttle body and reset the base idle, that will solve the stalling issue

Most of the time when I clutch in from revs, it drops to ~400rpm then goes back up to 700rpm, or whatever it is set to, but occasionally it misses a beat and stalls.

I wouldnt have thought the ISC would be gummed up yet as the car is only coming up to 75,000 k's, but I'll give it a clean on the weekend and see how it goes.

If you own a dmm or test light, make sure it's getting voltage at idle too.

I got the same thing since manual conversion, rev hang is much better since resetting base idle, still stalls when slowing down and I put the clutch in, very occasionaly. I'm hoping when I FINALY get my J3 it will be cured

unplug the isc, if it stalls, clean the throttle body and readjust base idle. it should idle at least 500rpm with it unplugged. Very common problem.

Hey guys,

Updated the site with a few more cars in our Owners Gallery, including BLC's 229rwkw Raptor supercharged ED and a few others.

It has been mentioned before that once you put in the chip with a manual bin on it, you lose the speed sens. power steering.
I could live without it, but its great for parking.

Good time to join the conversation. I've got a March '97 V8 EL Fairmont Ghia (EEC 5) that is getting an EL XR8 T5 conversion before the end of the month. I've got everything I need except the fix for the ECU. I've got a recipe for the DIY resistor fix but this is obviously light years ahead of that. I'll point form my questions for clarity.

1) Can I have a Pre-Programmed Chip that will both deal with the missing auto and give me EL XR8 or ELGT fuel/spark curves? Is that what having a chip with a "manual bin" refers to?

2) If I cant have (or they wont work with my specs) XR8 or GT programming, can I have a Custom Pre-Programmed Chip to spark up my tune? The only mods to date are a decent ignition system and a twin 2-1/4" pacemaker exhaust system.

3) I can live without the speed sensitive steering too. Providing its the low speed setting I'm losing and not the high speed setting. Do you know for sure how this presents?

4) In the future when I've learnt a hell of a lot more that I know now can I upgrade to the Full House Tuning Pack while still using the same chip I originally bought?

5) And finally, can I get rid of the MAF and run a MAP or similar in future tunes?

Cheers

I believe I have an EL XR8 manual bin, not sure if this will suit your car however (are the MAF and Injectors the same?).

2) If I cant have (or they wont work with my specs) XR8 or GT programming, can I have a Custom Pre-Programmed Chip to spark up my tune? The only mods to date are a decent ignition system and a twin 2-1/4" pacemaker exhaust system.

This would be a better option IMO.

3) I can live without the speed sensitive steering too. Providing its the low speed setting I'm losing and not the high speed setting. Do you know for sure how this presents?

Sorry, i'm not certain on this one, my EF doesn't have it. Try a forum search for someone who's converted to it?

4) In the future when I've learnt a hell of a lot more that I know now can I upgrade to the Full House Tuning Pack while still using the same chip I originally bought?

Yes, the chips are all the same and fully reprogrammable by a dealer/tuner or any of our programming kits.

5) And finally, can I get rid of the MAF and run a MAP or similar in future tunes?

Unfortunately, this is out of the question without a drastic change (i.e. you could look at running a late 80s MAP based V8 bin from an early Mustang).

Hope this helps,

Jason

Sure does Jason. I'll have one of your Custom chips thanks. Jam as much tune into it as you reasonably can to sharpen up what I've got (stock other than high output ignition and full pacey twin system) PM me how you like to be paid and let me know what extra info you need (all I know atm is that its a EEC 5).

One more question though. Should I expect to lose any BCM functionality? Being a Ghia I'd hate to lose the climate control or trip computer or cruise etc.

Cheers mate

Andrew

The chip won't effect the BEM.

Will send you a PM.

Good. Hey what did you do when you went back to auto? You put a stally in yeah? Did you need a chip to run that?
