Hey Sam,

You should have received an email from me to your PayPal address with a link to a thread on here - ecu-fuel-system-eec-f21/datalogger-setup-t91422-40.html is the thread.

Cheers,
Jason

hi there...

had a look through the tech docs and couldnt find the answer..

is it possible to leave the the j3 chip in the ecu and program it. Thinking it would be less likely to damage it if it needs to be put in and out heaps?

No its not, which is why the Programming guide doesn't mention it. If you damage the chip removing it, you're doing it wrong! Reinserting the chip can help clean up any oxidisation on the pins anyway.

hey guys,
i bought my chip months ago but havent even started the mods on my car yet, lack of shelter in mid winter. but im starting to get things ready to swap engines etc (full list of mods to come on another thread), and here is my question:

i'm using an ED XR6 engine in my EB series 2, with an EL ECU 6DBA, what bin and def do i use and what alterations do i make to suit the Tickford motor?

i have downloaded the 6DBA.bin and the Hwad3_v6_256k.xdf and got tuner pro up and running, am i heading in the right direction, or am i off course?

Hey bud,

I would gave emailed you a bunch of links to tuning guides when you purchased the chip. These are manditory reading before starting to tune. Give them a read and you'll find your answer :-)

Jason

hi jason,
thanks for the reply. ive read and read and read, every little bit of info of your site, inc the 68 page doc on the ECU, it was actually VERY interesting.
Elsewhere, i seen it mentions to use the bin that matches the ecu (in my case 6DBA) but i cannot find a def to suit that catch code, i have the 6DBA.bin file.

The HWAD3_v?_256 (i have Version6 and Version8 file) says its for the 6DBD bin, will that work for the 6DBA?

As for the ED XR6 i cannot find a matching bin/def for it, the TI web site says that the 2DBD is the XR6 bin, but what def do i use with it??? I got the 3DBC def from the ED def section (its the only one there), but the values im getting in tunerpro cant be right, and the same with the 2DCA Def in the ea-ed def section.

thank you for your time

The last character of the catch code is normally the revision - the first version is A, the next update is B, etc. So, 2DBA and 2DBD are the same structure, and should use the same def.

i remember seeing that somewhere to (I.E. last digit meaning), i was hoping it was the same!
im getting pretty normal results on the tabels etc in tuner pro using 6DBA.bin and Hwad3_v8_256.xdf

now i'm hoping to "compare" the EL ECU and the ED XR6 ECU for differences.
can i use the "compare" feature in tunerPro?
i cant seem to load different .xdf's for different bin's (when comparing)

thank you for your help

Using 6DBD will be fine. Take a look at 6TAC (or 6DJC for an auto) bins for comparison purposes, you can look at taking the spark table from there and smoothing it out if you've kept the log manifold.

To compare with different defs you will need to use another tool (Excel is good).

Cheers,
Jason

cool, thanks for that. that should keep me going for a while.

Everything is coming together now, althought i did a "self" test on the orig ecu while in the car (before i go to start anything) and got a few interesting an "alarming" codes, trans faults, sensors etc, so im of to fix all that first.

Which bin has ssps in it?

*Edit* I think I found a suitable one. 6DMA (Fairlane concorde) bin using HWAD3?

Pretty sure 6DMA or 6DJC will help you out there :-)

Yeah any NL Fairlane or EL Ghia dump will have SSPS - I6 or V8.

Bear in mind though the spark map for that one is std I6, not XR6, which the 6DJx ones have.

Does 6DJC work fine with HWAD3? It doesn't say anything about it under the definitions link on the TI website. That's how I came to the 6DMA conclusion as it is mentioned.

6DMA was listed as being from a Fairlane Concorde, which were fitted with the Tickford I6.
I figured that would be the same as a Fairmont Ghia.

Did all Fairlanes get SSPS or was it just Ghias like with the Fairmonts?
