Jason I checked with Papa Smurf and he tells me I should have a 12XC - Can you help with that?

Thanks

Have you checked the J3 port is clean as per the installation guide emailed to you?

Shane, will get back to you.

Yeah I cleaned it as per your guide, I could try it again if you think it may help. It seems to be working just not compatible ? A fan stays on and it barely idles but is fine when the chip is removed.

Thanks,

The guide explains that fans staying on and poor idle are generally a result of not cleaning the port properly. Please re-read the guide as I already prompted :)

Shane, yes I can do 12XC.

I've got a stage 2 cam in my 1996 EL Fairmont Ghia (Unsure of the make, as the bloke before me lost the receipts) But am interested in getting a J3 chip down the track. Before I do, I want to know if there is a way to check if my car all ready has a performance chip? Because I know very little when it comes to ECU related materials.
I doubt that it would, as I live in NSW and the closest dealer/tuner is on the Central Coast, and the bloke I bought the car off lived in Hornsby.

Cheers,
REW93N

Hey mate,

Chips can be done to spec via mail order, so it could already have something. Have a look at the ECU under the passenger kick panel. If it has a black plastic cover on the bottom of the ECU, it doesn't have a chip. See http://www.tiperformance.com.au/Technic ... 20Chip.pdf for more info.

Cheers,
Jason

Thanks for the quick reply, mate!
I'll have a look at it soon.
If I was to order a chip,
how could I determine the "mail order specs" to suit my car?

No probs.

Have a good read of the website, it explains some of the things I need. Shoot me an email with some detailed specs of the car and I'll let you know if there's anything else.

Cheers,
Jason

Had a ball today at the boostedfalcon.net Cruise for Charity 2011! The guys put on a great event at the Dandenong Showgrounds with a great a food and drinks setup including Krispy Kreme & Red Bull promos. Well over 300 cars there, a few non-Fords and plenty to do including the SPL comp, run by MEA. Almost took out the Street A SPL class hitting 137db playing Pendulum in the EF :)

Big thanks to Damo (XR_Lightening), Damo (SLO4LT), Gerard (GeZZa_200), and Simon (saturnine_07) for displaying their cars in our stand, our lovely merch girls and everyone that came over to say hi!

Is there any advantage getting a j3 chip, with an xr6 tune for example, if the car is stock?

Hey Jason re- cleaned the port and she runs beautifully now. Still have the issue with the A/C staying on all the time unless I turn off the fan. Not sure if this is an issue specific to AU2/3 with the J3 or if that is just a coincidence thus far for me on the 2 installs.

It appears all the right signals are on the ports of the ecu coming from the fan & a/c switch, but I would like to double check that soon to confirm.

If you run premium fuel, yes.

I ended up taking my J3 out of my AUII because of the same problem. I thought I just hadn't cleaned it properly so I took it out untill I had time to play with it.

Can you shed any light on this issue Jas ? I'm considering putting my auto back in and the J3 will need a re-tune but I'm not keen on re-tuning if it's still not going to work with my au.

So are you talking about the a/c issue?

sure am. seems the later au models are assumed compatible with apparent differences. Exact same problem as yours, yet to be resolved.

We all know what assumption does...
