I'm trying to get to the fuel pump on my EL. Is there a trick to undoing the nut? I've tried with a large flat blade screw driver and hammer on the tabs, but all I've achieved is breaking a couple of them off. Does it screw the normal way or is it a stupid back to front yank thing? Hopefully I'm not just tightening it up more!

Any help soon would be greatly appreciated! :)

Unscrews the normal way just bloody hard to get moving. Keep at it with the hammer but use something blunt.

What's the go with the 2 hoses on top? How do I undo them? They look like they're pretty fragile so I don't want to go breaking anything.

There's a ring on each of them that came out when I was bashing the nut. Inside the connection there appears to be a couple of tabs. Do I need to work it loose from the inside or something?

Cheers, I got it with lots of gentle prising. Just had a tool dropped off to assist in doing the nut back up.

Fuel pump is now out and there's no filter off the bottom of it. Now I have to try and sort that out!

should be a mesh bag type thing
not an actual filter ( ie liek the one in the fuel line )

I used big assed mitli grips worked a treat, and for the fuel hoses, there are some plastic plugs used to disconnect them, they can be a pain without them. They slide over the line and push the centre of the connector in which commpresses a sping and then they just pop off

Exactly! When I got it back from them they were telling me about a problem with the fuel pump, how the pick-up is shorter on this one than standard, so I wouldn't want to go under a quarter of a tank. Un-f**k-believable!

It looks like when grinding down the 4 plastic ribs at the base of the pump, he's taken out the knob in the centre which is actually used to hold the sock on. You can see where it's been hit with a file or something. Even if it was put on, it wouldn't have stayed on after going around a couple of corners. I got a new one today anyways and got it in without any dramas.

Thanks again to pugsley for bringing around a tool he'd made up for undoing the nut. It's just a bit of timber with a couple of bolts through it but does the job well!

I'll have to try and get a look at the fuel filter tomorrow because I'm sure there would have been a bit of s**t getting in there that shouldn't have.

Scaffy...did you replace the O-ring on the black plastic cover that you struggled to remove?

If not, I advise to replace it with a new one if it hasn't been replaced before. I didn't on my EA and I leaked fuel out through the plastic cap.

Will cost you a fair bit from Fraud...

Nah mate, I didn't. I didn't even think to. I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Cheers for the heads up!
