Anyone know of, or had any experience with aftermarket coil packs.
I'm looking for something to replace the ford coil packs on my EF, Something from MSD that would provide a much stronger spark would be ideal.. Thanks. |

I understand the AU packs are better than EF ones, I have them, fitted straight in.

What makes the AU pack better than the EF packs?

AU coil packs use different leads, and the plug to connect them up is different.
change the plug and get new leads and you're set

I am not sure that the output is any different but the construction or materials may have changed from EF to overcome the high failure on early EF's. Has anyone tried the newer "coil on plug" coils?
Cheers TW.

Quote: may have changed from EF to overcome the high failure on early EF's.
How many have had to replace there coil pack due to failure?? Does this mean that latter EF's don't have a problem meaning they are different coil pack? This all seems to be an urban myth to me. I was at the understanding Ford went back to the Dizzy on the EL to save money for the AU project. I don't thinck Ford would have dropped the coil pack (going backward) because of "problems" If they did have issues I am sure Bosch engineers would have been right onto it. Cheers Dazza |

I think there was a problem with the actual ECU that caused ford to return to the dizzy on EL's, something about a miss that EF's experienced. I'm on to my third set of coil packs now. Not that that’s the reason I want to change them. Its just that I'm running a Wolf3d and have turbo'ed my car so I want the best(strongest) possible spark I can get.

my coil packs never been changed, around 220,000km's.
mines an early series II EF though. i have however experienced a miss at idle a few times, who know why, but meh.
