Hey I really need some help, I have an EF Falcon and am replacing my EF Engine (coilpack) with a EL Engine (distributor). What is involved with the electrics side of things? Is the EF BEM compatible with the EL ECU?
Any help would be appreciated. Please Help |

Take the EL dizzy out and put the EF sequencer in its place. You also need to put the crank angle sensor on the front of the timing case. Then plug it all up and its as if it were an EF engine.

yeah, running an EL ECU is harder than you think in an EF car.. the plugs for the ECU are different which means for you, running a whole new loom, and lots of other looms.. Just put the sequencer, coil packs, VR sensor, and so forth on the new engine.

Thanks guys, I thought I might have to use the EF ignition system. Is the harmonic balancer (in relation to the crank angle sensor) on the EL the same as the EF.

pretty much apart from the balancer on the EF has teath marks in it...
I've got a EF motor in my ED, but using the dizzy (but all EL looms) the CAS is still in the front of the motor thou, just not connected up to anything . |

which means you will need the tooth wheel for the crank on the front for your EF ECU. And the VR (Variable Reluctor) sensor or CAS (crank angle sensor), whichever one you prefer.
If you have your EF engine, then just compare the two, and replace the parts you need. Cheers

EFs run a completely different wiring loom.. from the digram that I have, they run sequential injection, coil packs, they trigger the coils internally (unlike US models where the EEC for EDIS and TFI works almost the same), the plug is different on the ECU.
So, ECU, ignition, injection. Apart from that everything else would work... like, a new wiring loom would solve all EF > EL issues... I wouldn't say ALOT of the electronics, Id just say they are less interchangeable than EB/D and ELs. Cheers

yeah i knew the the entire engineloom would need changing.
but is there anything els?? say are there any plug on the engine loom that have to plug into the body loom?? i'm not worried about the auto (dont have one) but others might be |

the auto should be incorporated into the ECU loom, which goes out into the engine loom anyway. The body loom plugs into all E series ECU's as far as Im concerned. So, If you have an EL, you can use an EL dash with all the electronics in an EF, and vice versa. The actual electronics didn't change (trip computer, climate control, instrument cluster, etc)..
All the E series are interchangeable, just EFs make life a little harder. Cheers
