Is it a straight swap putting a EF/EL EEC-V ECU into an EB/ED V8 ?

V8? No.
I can guarantee you the EF V8 ECU has 104 pinout ("proper" EEC-V loom), not sure on EL but i suspect it would be the same. EB/ED V8 obviously has the EEC-IV 60 pinout loom (i think - if ED V8 has 104 pin loom then WILL be a straight-swap). Did someone say "EF dash in Brad's monty" ?!?!? lol

I'm pretty certain that EB/ED EEC-IV are 104 pin

Of course they are. They are completely different computers
Its the same deal as 4L land - you can use EL ECU's in EB/ED.. as long as the pin count and pin out is the same, its plug and play.

Isnt it the only difference between the 165KW and 175KW versions? Thermo control would've been nice too.
I may look into making an adapter harness for it.. or maybe Pete has an idea

I may look into making an adapter harness for it.. or maybe Pete has an idea The stock 4.9L was 165kw - i.e. the "non XR8" engine. This is true for EB-EL. Not sure on EB/ED but EF/EL XR8 was 170kw, difference actually being the exhaust - XR8 has a twin system through to the diff, non-XR8 has exhausts going into single immediately after cats. Confused? I am Personally i'd stick with the twEECerable EEC-IV setup until someone makes an edit for EF/EL EEC (<----dont hold ur breath on that one!)

Yeah it would be far better to stick with the EECIV and run a Tweecer to edit it unless there was something specific you need in the EECV. The Tweecer can also enable thermo fan control on the EECIV.

Yes EECIV is 60pin and EECV is 104pin(except EL 4.0L EECV which has the 60pin EECIV connector).
There is no real advantage using the EECV...the code is essentially identical to the EECIV. Pete. |
