Having big problems with a NF Fairlane Ghia V8 that will rarely start. Actually it does start but immediately stops. Have replaced the fuel pump but it did not fix it.
Can anyone tell me where the fuel pump relay is found as not sure if that may be the problem. Often takes 10 or 20 trys turning ignition on and off to hear the fuel pump run. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks avro |

Oh and I should have mentioned that other electrical items are failing too in fairly quick succession. Stereo no longer works (everything seems to work but no sound), sunroof no longer works, and turning headlights on seems to cause engine to faulter momentarily.

Check all the relays under the plastic coolant reservoir.......

relays is one thing.. but sounds like there is a really bad short somewhere... check your ground connections, and make sure there is no shorting. How much voltage is your battery holding usually? on idle, and above?
Cheers

Thanks, will check the relays under the plastic overflow bottle. Will also take off all earths and check for cleanliness.
Voltages as per instruments appear OK. Will need to check with digital volmeter when I get it running. Thanks again Avro |

Yeah, sounds like earthing issues- check your chassis and engine block earths, perhaps along with the +ve lead to the starter motor. It might be just dirty battery connectors.
If you earth the top right pin of the diagnosis connector and turn ign on, your fuel pump should run without the engine going - this is handy to test the fuel pump, fuel pump relay and ECU power relay operation.

That begs the question "Where do I find the diagnostics plug?". Sounds like a very handy test.
Unfortunately I have not had a chance to follow up any of the recomendations yet but should be able to at the weekend. Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated. Regards avro |

Check out the technical documents section, it will tell you how to run a diagnostic test. The diagnostic connector is just under the fuse box... at your right knee..
Cheers
