I have a EL Falcon GLI on Gas and was doing the shift kit mod and was wondering what ECU it had in the car.

ECU number is 6TGB cant remember the factory number

any ideas? This car is pretty dam quick for an EL on gas, holds its own against the AU which is on ULP, surprised me!!! and that was before the modding

I'd say it has done, but being an xcab ya never know... doesnt use oil or blow smoke, and is quick for a dead stock car

E just means a later revision... so a 6TGE is still a 1996 tickford gas ECU, just revision E.

Cheers

cooki_mosta's got it

Yes you can use them, but from what I gather (can't prove this) but they just run different spark maps for when you provide power on the LPG pin.

So in other words the only reason you would run that on a petrol car would be to say that "hey bro, check it out, TICKFORD!!!"

as there would be no gains.

But I could be wrong and there would be an improvement, but I doubt it. Probably achieve more from resetting your ecu.

Cheers

so does that mean it will have the xr6 maps and shifts points. will it be an upgrade for me or will it not be worth it.

AFAIK, perhaps jim3964 could shed some more light on the topic, but 6TAD would be an XR6 manual EL Ecu, revision D.

6TBD Would be the tickford automatic, revision D ecu.

If 6tgd is an XR6 ECU, then I have an EF one for sale in the For Sale forums, but in the same thread it was determined that it was a gas ECU as there was extra terminals to achieve LPG sparks and so forth.

Cheers

Yeah, an EF/EL list of ECU Nos would be good.

I'd say the best way to check Tickford ECU's to confirm whether it's XR or LPG(9xDT-xxxxxx-xx) is to plug it in and start the engine - if it doesn't start, just motors over, it's probably an LPG ECU, if it starts it will be most likely an XR. Apply 12v to pin 92 (EF), or pin 8 (EL) during starting - if it then starts, it's definitely an LPG ECU.
