Today i rang a wrecker i know and asked for price and availabilities for various parts. One of these was an EL 6cyl auto ECU, but i was told there are about 20 different types of these, which do i want? Indeed, which do i want, or doesn't it matter? I am putting an AU motor into an EBII GLi auto non-smartlock.

ummm I am assuming you'll be running the distributor rather then coil pack. I'll imagine an EL XR ECU would go down well if you got the XR accessories strapped to the motor. If you don't I'd say any would do fine.

Yeah they do, but I think you swap it over for a distributor...unless I am thinking off EF motors.

yea you can just drop a dizzy in a au engine and use a el ecu..
thats the easiest way to run a au engine in a eb .ect.

it doesnt really matter about the ecu.. as long as its a 60 pin el ecu.
there are a few differences in them but they will still do the job.
if you can source a tickford ecu it would be slightly better but a std one will do..

Yes, i'll be using a dizzy.

By tickford you mean XR6? Why would one of these be better than a std one? Because both the XR6 and the AU have higher compression than the std motor?

Is that 60 pin, as Troyman mentioned?

I was figuring on using the AU fuel pressure reg that i expect will come on my AU motor . . . is that comparable to the EL fairmont reg?

yhe thats right i actually have to el ecu's on from the fairmont ghia which runs the xr6 motor and a standard one that was out of a fairmont both 69 pin

Will you be running the AU manifold and accessories or are going to replace them with your log manifold from your EB engine. If you use the EL ecu you will have to obtain a smart lock bypass, run extra wires for the manifold runners and control the thermo fans somehow. You will also have to tweak your EB engine loom to suit the AU motor.

I will be doing the latter, bbm etc. For details refer below (scroll to the updated list):

One question on my mind is where to run the wires from the ECU into the engine bay. I looked around the other day and it seems i might have to dismantle parts of the dashboard . . . ugh? (at 6'5" with broad shoulders dashboard work is an extra b**ch, but i could remove a front seat). Any suggestions?

I don't know anything about this 60 or 69 pin thing. Any info?

Thanks.

Jumping back to a question i asked, do you mind giving your thoughts on the following;

"By tickford you mean XR6? Why would one of these be better than a std one? Because both the EL XR6 and the std AU have higher compression than the std EL motor?"

?

its the timing and fuel maps in the ecu that make the tickford xr6 ecu different to suit the xr6 cam.. also the auto gear shift is slightly different..
