I will soon to start looking around at more mods. Considering a unichip. They are a bit pricey, but a second hand unit might be an idea. Now, can anyone confirm my assumptions:
1. Unichip plugs straight into the EECV computer (eg no wires?) Easy to install. 2. Unichip needs to be tuned by a dealer. Dealer charges for dyno time and tuning costs. (and possible install) 3. One unichip can be exchanged through APS for another unit. In the case of wanting to change cars but keep the chip? (need to check this one out) Can anyone tell me what model chip I would need for my EF? Which Ignition does this run? Is there anything I need to know about second hand unichips?

There are a few variants of the unichip... IIRC they are not plug n play for an EEC-V Which means.... the unichip has a small wiring harness which must be butchered into the existing EEC-V harness. Yeah, unichips are tuned by authorised dealers. You'll pay for dyno time and usually a flat fe for the tune. They can fit but i imagine this is charged at usual labour rates... $60/hr or so... Not sure what you mean exhange.... if you wanted the unichip to go with you when you get a new car, unbutcher the loom and install it into the new car... and have the maps retuned of course...

drazull u need a type "C" unichip for the EF.
The type C suits EF, AU, BA Coil pack falcon sixes. Fitting and tuning will cost. I have been quoted $350-$550 for a four hour job!! bit over $60 an hour! I have fitted mine myself but it's hard with no instructions!!!! Install is easy but without a profesional dyno tune by a unichip installer its probably not really worthwhile. I did it just to see it working but as each tune is a custom tune don't expect to fit it yourself and it to work. |

I read in the US hot rod magazine that showed fitting of a chip in 15 minutes provided a 18hp (13.42)rwk gain on a 95 chev Impala SS with a straight plug in by them without tuning it in on a dyno.
The chip was a jetchip. So why does it take so long here to fit them is the chip designers ripping people of with chip designs on the Aussie ecu's. www.jetchip.com ghiaman |

So whats the difference with chiptorque then.
I fitted my chip myself in 10 mins, just plug straight in. is unichip any better? i wouldn't even bother piggy backing your ecu unless you get it for cheap, just do it properly to start with and get an aftermarket one!!! yes i know it costs about 3 times the $$$ but its worth it.

Unichip can be tuned for your car. The chiptorque chip is a generic off the shelf chip.
