I have an EL fairmont on dual fuel and was wondering if there is any advantage with running a tickford dual fuel ECU?

You would see the most benefit in an EF as you can't change the EF's timing. It will adjust the shift points to better suit LPG, so that may help some.
If you have advanced your timing some to better suit LPG then I would say the benefit would be marginal. It would probably take you a loooong time to see the benefits cost wise in LPG savings. cheers Scott

Actually I think you would see benifits such as more low down power and better fuel economy. Because when the ECU is in LPG mode it will change the ingnition map to suit gas... more initial timing advance but less overall advance.

Does it have that much control in the EL? If so then I can definitely vouch for better power. The EF goes just as well on LPG as it did on petrol all thanks to the LPG ECU.

I did some fuel consumption tests with a std auto petrol ECU, and then with the LPG ECU fitted, over 3000 kms, using actual tankfill amounts as well.
Comparing using the same travel habits, e.g. work travel, highway, etc, I found fuel consumption to improve around 2-2.5l/100km. Pulling power up hills was noticeably better - petrol performance was still better, but not by much, so I think Tickford did a good job. This is based on an EL auto wagon. These ECU's do work well when tricked for manual transmission operation as well.

So is it just a matter of unplugging my current ECU and plugging in a ticky LPG one?

Depends. The Ticky ECU has a switch to change from petrol to LPG maps. You need to hook that switch up to get it to work right if you are duel fuel. If you are LPG only just plug it in becauseit defaults to the LPG maps. Do a search on here to find the right pin.

what if i did this on my EF XR6 (runs on LPG and petrol)
would there be difference in the petrol maps on the Ticky Gas ECU than on my current XR6 ECU? Would the Ticky Gas ECU assist with its gas spark map? or would this already have been covered when the car was converted?

If your car was a XR6 from factory then it has an XR6 ECU. I'm assuming it was converted to LPG post purchase. If this is the case then you do not have the optimum LPG maps (you don't have any). When on gas you are running the XR6 spark maps. If you run on petrol and LPG an equal amount of time, then you should stick with the current ECU. If you run predominantly LPG, then try and get a Tickford LPG ECU. You will probably make some money as everyone wants an XR6 ECU (Ebay will get you a packet).

thanks scott thats what i wanted to hear.
so if i do get the tickford LPG ecu, it will be benefitial if i run LPG all the time (which i do) , but if i ran it on petrol, i would lose what i would have with the XR6 ecu spak maps? is there a way to have it both ways? im guessing a wolf3d is probably what id be looking at..correct?
