no diff unless u are running the xr6 fuel pressure reg and the xr6 cam. not worth the bother unless u wanna put a tickford badge on your car lol

i was just curious if it made a difference because some people want alot of money for these ecu's.
and personaly i dont want to spend money on somthing that will do f**k all for performance. i already got a tickford badge on my car. i dont need a tickford ecu to justify putting a badge on.. but still like to know peoples experiences with swapping a std ecu with a xr6 one?? thanks.. |

In the EL series the XR6 ECU gives you the advantage of having no speed cut at 180km/h. We took my ecu from my xr and put in my mates gli. At first it idles a little rough but otherwise no real noticable difference.
210km/h is fun though.... |

I already got the speed limiter disabled. so i guess there is no real point puting the xr6 ecu in??

If you are running a mild aftermarket cam, it will make a difference to how it idles and runs. When I first fitted my wade cam, I had real issues getting it to idle smoothly, but after fitting the xr ecu, ive had no problems. Seems to give a slight improvement to performance also, just not a lot

My car always goes s**t when I put the XR6 ECU in.
Goes good for the first few days, before it can figure out its running lean, but when it does it just richens it back up again. Bout the only plus is as Low EL said, slightly better idle with my cam, but it's not that bad with stock ECU anyway. Worth 200+ dollars? Nope.

ive read where people say there car has got xr6 ecu .but they never really say if it makes any difference on a std engine?
i was curious if there was any point in puting a xr ecu on a std engine. i still got std cam so i think the money could be well spent else where.. its ridiculous how much wreckers want for these ecu's. i got quoted $250 for a el xr6 auto ecu s/h. $550 for a el xr6 manual ecu s/h $250 for a el std manual ecu s/h so i got a std el auto ecu for $70 . thats what im using at the moment.. its tricked by resistors so i can use it on a manual. and it works good . theres always that curiosity if it would make much difference using the xr one or even using the std manual instead of tricking the auto one?? |

You reckon that's expensive. To get my Golf GTI remapped to stage 1 APR specs. 147kw to 188kw. 280nm to 411nm..............$1,999.00. Cheers Chris WADE CAMS |

My GLI ex chaser (now with Tickford head{ported ,polished and with new stainless valves]) RUNS CRISPER AND IDLES BETTER WITH THE CHASER ecu, AND STANDARD REGULATOR than with the tickford ecu and regulator, Do'nt know why but it does

210km/h is fun though.... just be careful u dont put stevens tailshaft through his floor doing that (im assuming it was his gli u used)... Datamine on here had that happen to him. major damage... |
